Girls Trip to Fredericksburg

March 9, 2018 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

Last weekend my girlfriends and I headed out for a girls trip to Fredericksburg to celebrate our bestie’s 40th birthday!  We had such a great time.  Not much better than getting away for a weekend with your girls!  Tons of fun, lots of memories made and great for the soul!  Here are all the details on our trip to Fredericksburg!

First of all, THANK YOU for all of your suggestions.  Y’all always give amazing advice.  If you are looking to visit Fredericksburg check out my Instagram post and Facebook post where yall gave tons of ideas/places to see/things to do!  I also got some great ideas from my friend Alice on her blog post here.

GIRLS TRIP TO FREDERICKSBURG

Fredericksburg is about 5 hours away from where we live.  While this is a longish road trip we loved the car ride.  5 hours in the car with some of your favorite people uninterrupted was amazing!!  Many times when we get together we have our kiddos (many still pretty little) so it is basically impossible to get through a conversation.  We chatted and listened to great music the entire time so the car ride flew by!  We left early Friday morning and got into town around 5 and headed to our house to get ready for dinner. We rented a house close to the main strip.  There are so many cute options out there, but we ended up staying at Mistletoe House.  It was perfect for us.  Its a  few blocks away from Main Street, which is where almost everything is located, so we could walk to the shopping, restaurants, etc.

Our first night we wanted to go to a nicer restaurant to celebrate Leslie’s bday!!  We headed to Cabernet Grill and it was delicious!  The outdoor atmosphere was so pretty.  We had wine, steaks, exchanged gifts and had an amazing night!

After dinner we headed back to the house, got in our jammies, drank some more wine and talked forever.  Let me tell you. . .girlfriends are the best thing in the world and I am so blessed to have some of the best!  I LOVE these ladies and feel so so lucky to do life with them.  We can have fun anywhere and getting the chance to all hang out and talk late into the night was so much fun!!

The next morning we headed out to brunch at Rathskeller on the main strip.  The food was delicious and filled our tummies before our wine tour!  After brunch, we headed over to hop on the 290 Wine Shuttle.  We had thought about renting a private car, but honestly this was such a great way to do it.  It is only $29.99 and you can use it all day.  There are 13 wineries on the route and you can hop on/off at any of the ones you want to stop at.  The busses run all day so you barely ever have to wait.  It was so convenient and I definitely recommend it.

Our first stop was Grape Creek Vineyards.  It was the most beautiful vineyard we stopped at.  The grounds were gorgeous and there was an amazing outdoor patio with live music.  If you go on the wine tour be sure to check the times.  We went to this vineyard first, because they stopped allowing the bus to drop people off at a specific time.

photo via the American Winery Guide

The tasting was really fun.  You got to try 6 different types of wine and we had a wonderful lady we were working with.  After the tasting, we hopped back on the bus and headed to the next vineyard.

Next stop, Becker Vineyards.  Becker Vineyards is known for its lavender.  Unfortunately, we went the wrong time of the year so none of it was blooming.  I have heard it is incredible in the Spring.  Not only is it beautiful, but smells amazing.  We did a tasting here as well which came with 6 tastings and 1 freebie.  Between the 2 vineyards I would say that Grape Creek was prettier, but our group enjoyed the wine more at Becker Vineyards.

After, the tasting we were feeling very “relaxed” and decided it was time for a little food.  We grabbed some yummy cheese, crackers, bread and bought a bottle of our favorite wine to enjoy outside on the patio.

It was the perfect lunch.  Dill Goat cheese, Brie, buttery crackers, delicious wine and girl talk.  What more could you want?!

It is so funny because we all agreed this was our FAVORITE wine (photo below)!  It was so so good.  Kinda reminded me of Meiomi Pinot Noir which is one of my favorites as well.  If you go here I highly recommend trying this one if you like a red blend.

After lunch, we decided to head back into town for some shopping.  We walked up and down Main Street and popped into lots of fun shops.  There are so many cute things to see on the “strip”.  My FAVORITE was Farm Haus!  I shared lots on Instagram stories, but wow….so many things I wanted to take home.  The girls also got frozen wine while shopping from Fat Ass Winery :).  After lots of retail therapy, we worked up an appetite and headed over to Hondos for dinner and margaritas.  That place was an experience.  There was a beautiful patio and everyone else thought so too.  You wait in line to order your food and I am not kidding the line was like a 30+ minute wait.  It was kinda crazy.  The food was good, not sure it was worth the long wait in line, but we had a great time.  We met a really sweet woman in line who was there with some of her girlfriends celebrating a friends 60th bday.  She said the best advice she can give is to always make time for your girlfriends.  She wished she had traveled more with her friends when she was younger. Great advice I think :).  After some margs and queso we headed back to our home for more girl talk and comfy clothes.  Perfect ending to an amazing day.

The next morning we woke up, packed up, grabbed brunch and Nury’s and then made one last stop before we headed out of town at Magnolia Pearl.  This place was highly recommended by several of you and WOW, I mean. . .the building was absolutely the stuff dreams are made of.  Prepare yourself for the million photos I am sharing below, but I literally couldn’t get enough.  I would love to pick up the building, plop it in McKinney and move in tomorrow.  The details, the architecture, everything was perfection!!!  So. . .Magnolia Pearl is actually a clothing store and not gonna lie. . .lets just say the clothing was NOT my style. . .BUT the building and decor blew me away!!

So incredible right?!  Around the back they are working on making a building out of a old silo so I am sure that is going to be amazing too!  If you are in town you have to stop by and see this building!

After drooling over Magnolia Pearl, we hopped in our car for the ride home.  No Texas road trip is complete without a stop at Buc-ees.  I know all my Texas people know what I am talking about.  We grabbed some goodies and then enjoyed 5 more hours of laughter, and shenanigans.  We truly had the best weekend.  It was good food therapy, wine therapy, girl therapy, etc.  I am pretty sure I burned off all the calories I consumed from laughing.  If you are looking for a fun girls trip we really loved Fredericksburg.

Next stop with my girls. . .Scottsdale.  Stay tuned for those trip details. . .coming soon. 🙂

Well – you have certainly made me want to go! It all looks and sounds great – more than a car trip from the UK though!

We have a daughter who lives in Bee Cave and we do visit regularly. I especially like my namesake town (Fredericksburg) a nice daytrip out of Bee Cave / Austin.

When designing our home I pulled inspiration from all over! Pinterest, Instagram, magazine, design books, etc. we had this long spot in our front entry that we were trying to figure out and when I saw this image (swipe to see) in @gilschaferthearchitect ‘s book it stopped me in my tracks. I loved the use of transoms and designated spaces. My architect @josephpaulhomes & his wife Michelle helped pull the whole look together. So happy with how it turned out.

My grandfather owned a grocery store in New Jersey. The scale hanging from the ceiling in our butler’s pantry was the scale in his store. My uncle had it for the longest time & gifted it to me when we moved into this home. I love it so much!! My mom has the cash register he used in his store in her home. I love decorating with items that have meaning & that tell a story.

I love hallways & nooks. They are a great way to add interest to your home. Natural light & details are key. This space connects our hearth room to the gameroom. The Dutch door goes out to our courtyard, the room at the end is my office and the door to the left (just out of the photo) goes to the pool bath. Lots going on in this space.
I saw this floor pattern in a design book & had to have it somewhere in our home. I love it so much!

Bathrooms are such a fun space to make bold choices. They are small so every decision & detail makes a big impact. Still in love with this wallpaper from @wallpapersgalore_

✨REMODEL UPDATE: FAMILY ROOM✨

This family room had good bones, but we needed to declutter , maximize storage, update furnishings & make the space more functional.

There was a wall of shelves that was just too much. We purged and decorated with items that she loved & had sentimental value. So many homes are built with tons of open shelving and you have to be really careful in these spaces because they can become a spot for clutter instead of being intentional.
•added cabinet doors to 2 sections of shelves for some much-needed hidden storage.
•utilized the shelving that was separate from the other ones to make a designated bar space that is intentional and great for entertaining.
•found an gorgeous antique bar back to go against the wall that again is used as a bar when they entertain. Previously, it was a huge bench that took up width, but added no height to the wall. This is a major focal point in this space so we made it both functional and beautiful.
• I am not a huge fan of sectional couches unless they are in very specific areas. I think sometimes when people have a big room, they look for a big furniture to take up the space but it doesn’t actually give you the most seating and the spacing is sometimes awkward. They still really wanted a leather couch in there so we kept that, but then used more tailored chairs to frame the space.
• found this gorgeous coffee table on Facebook marketplace. Such a find!
•Removed the huge windmill fan that really took away from the gorgeous architecture of the ceiling with the beams.
•filled in dead space with functional furniture, like a cute table perfect for game night.
•scaled back the TV so it made more sense over the fireplace and went with a frame one so there could be pretty art up there as it is a main focal point. (Art was off in this photo, but typically it looks like a vintage painting)

So excited with how this space turned out. It’s lighter, brighter, more functional & a better use of space. They have walls of windows along the back of the house with a beautiful view and now you’re able to focus on that more.

✨REMODEL UPDATE: DAUGHTER’S BATHROOM ✨

Throughout this remodel you will see two constant goals…brighten up the spaces & add functional storage. This bathroom was dark & dated. We took everything out and had a fresh start.

•New paint, wallpaper, tile, fixtures, lighting, etc.
•Raised the height of the counters & some additional cabinetry extending up to the ceiling for much needed storage.
•Added cute details to the side of the counters
•Removed the tub & added a glass door to the shower to make the space feel bigger & more open.

This sweet girl has brought us so much joy! We are “foster failures” & couldn’t be happier about it. Callie has been the best addition to our family.
Chat GPT made this cute art from our Christmas picture of her. She was living her best life with all the ribbon from the presents.

I love a mudroom! I don’t care what size house I live in from here on out I’ll always have some “mudroom” space…even if it’s a tiny little spot. It’s so great to have a drop zone to keep organized. This space got lots of use during our ice storm with all the wet shoes, etc & these brick floors were great!!

Feels strange getting back to work this week. We’ve been living in PJs and been asking what day it was for about a week now. Snowmageddon 2026 was fun & we still have piles of ice on the ground….BUT nice to go back to a bit of a routine. January felt like 47 days 🤪
