Its my favorite time of the year. . .the holidays. I don’t know about you, but during the holidays we have a lot of guests at our home. From parties, to family and friends coming to stay, our home is a revolving door and I love it. So many memories are made this time of year and I cherish the time with the people I love. That being said, I want my home to be all set when they arrive! Today I am sharing my tips and tricks to get your home guest ready!
GET YOUR HOME GUEST READY
We have a guest room in our home, but during Christmas we have extra guests stay and we need more than 1 room as a guest room. You may be in a similar boat, or you may not have a specific guest room. When we need extra room we turn our kids rooms into extra guest rooms, I know lots of people who use kids rooms, offices, game rooms, etc to accommodate guests and today I am sharing a few things I like to do to make those rooms inviting and cozy.
BEDDING
Bedding can really make a room. Whether you are prettying up a blow up mattress or sprucing up a kids bedroom, bedding is a quick and easy way to change the feel of a space. We typically use Braden’s room for extra guests. He and Avery can share a room or sometimes for a special treat we let them sleep in our room. Braden’s bedroom is very nice, but it is geared for a boys room. I like to have extra decorative bedding and pillows on hand so I can change up the bed quickly and get a whole new feel to the room.
Here is Braden’s room. . .
and here is his room with new bedding all ready for guests. . .
With just a few bedding and decor changes, the entire room feels transformed. I am all about simple, affordable ways, to enhance your home. One of my go to places for beautiful, quality, affordable furniture and decor is Walmart. They have styles for every budget and make it easy to shop. At Walmart.com you can shop by style which makes the decorating process so much easier, plus, you get free shipping on orders over $35. These are all major wins! The other great thing, if something doesn’t work out, you can go return it at the store! So convenient!
I found this beautiful white ruffle stripe quilt and it was the perfect piece to add to the bed. It changed the entire look of the bedding and folds up really small when I want to store it. It could also be folded up and laid across the end of the bed. It comes in several colors and was less than $40! It had amazing reviews which confirmed it would be perfect. I kept the duvet that was on my sons bed for warmth, but the quilt changed the entire look. I also fell in love with this duvet/sham set and almost used it. It is white ruffle, but also reversible with gorgeous pink stripes! I bought it so I could show you what it looked like in person. This would be so beautiful in a room and again, the price is incredible!
I like to add a throw on the end of a bed. It adds color & texture, but also provides your guest with an extra blanket if they get cold. I found this great pom pom throw for less than $13!
FLOWERS & READING MATERIAL
Fresh flowers make any room feel more special. They smell good, are pretty and show a personal touch! You can add them to a nightstand, a dresser or a tray. I picked up all of this at my local Walmart. They have a great selection of vases in the craft department for less than $5 and great magazines in the book section or checkout aisle. This galvanized tray with brass handles is less than $8!! Such a steal!
How cute is this pillow?! Less than $15 and the quality is incredible. The jaquard fabric was thick and I love the fringe & tassel details!
DECOR
Another quick way to change up a room and make it feel more inviting is by adding some great decor. I removed all of Braden’s picture frames off the nightstands and found some more adult items, that I can always use in other areas of my home later. That is key! Find versatile items that are multi purpose! I truly love the entire Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart. They seriously make the cutest things that would cost more than double at another store! This galvanized metal home lantern is a piece from their new collection. The door opens and you can put an LED candle inside. The hammered gold candle is also part of the new collection and smells so good. The scent is Soft Cashmere Amber. The entire room smelled like the candle. I know when I am a guest somewhere I love for it to smell good.
The other side of the bed I used my favorite frames! These gold frames are so beautiful and there are a ton of different sizes available. I stacked on a few books for height, added some more fresh flowers and we were all set.
Other tips, make sure you make room in the closet and dressers for guests clothes. If you are using a kids room like I am, hide a bunch of their toys, clutter so the room feels calm and relaxing. I also like to leave a note with the wifi password easily available.
The main key is just by decluttering, and changing a few decor elements you can transform any room in your home into a guest ready retreat!
SHOP ROOM
BREAKFAST BAR
Another thing I love to do when I have guests in town is set up a breakfast bar type of area. This doesn’t need to be anything fancy, but I like an area that has some ready to go pastries and the coffee set up. People wake up at all different times, so if my guests are hungry and wake up before I do, or before breakfast is ready, I want them to have something they can enjoy. Lots of people want their coffee first thing when they wake up, so I want it easily accessible so they can help themselves and feel at home.
That cute galvanized home lantern works perfect in this space as well. I love cake trays. I think they are beautiful and perfect for keeping your yummy treats fresh! This one is from The Pioneer Woman and her entire collection is just beautiful. I used the same galvanized tray I shared earlier with this coordinating mug rack.
SHOP BREAKFAST BAR
Walmart really is a 1 stop shop for everything you need to get guest ready! Pick out all of your furniture and decor online and then run to the store for the food items you need (or do curbside pick up and you can wait in the car). Getting your home ready for guests should be fun, exciting, and not break the bank. I hope these tips have given you some new ideas for your own home this holiday season. Most importantly, enjoy the time with the ones you love.
