If you have been following my on Instagram stories yall know that I am OBSESSED with ImPRESS Nails! They have been a total game changer for me. I bought them on a whim at the store kind of laughing at the thought of wearing press on nails, but YALL. . .WOW! These are not the press on nails of the 80s. I am in love with them and every time I share them I get lots of questions so today I am sharing all the details!
IMPRESS NAILS
WHAT: ImPRESS nails. The best press on nails ever! They look beautiful, stay on well, are inexpensive and a total game changer
WHERE: You can buy these nails lots of places: TARGET, AMAZON, WALMART, ULTA, CVS, WALGREENS, GROCERY STORES, ETC. My favorite place to buy them is on the ImPRESS website. They have the largest selection and have offered my followers a coupon code! SAVE 25%: CODE HARGROVE25 Having said that. . .some of the sites above have good sales, like buy one get one 50% off so I would check those too!
WHY: I love having my nails done, but honestly hate making the time for it. Regular polish doesn’t last long on my nails (it always chips) and Gel/Nex Gen is beautiful, but it damages my nails (and I hate that you have to keep up with it. . .I don’t like have a standing appointment every 2 weeks for my nails). Before I discovered ImPRESS nails, I would polish my nails and then for vacation or holidays (when I wanted my nails looking extra good), I would get Gel/NexGen. I did that process for years! Discovering ImPRESS nails has been a game changer. They look amazing, are super inexpensive, quick/easy to do, stay on my nails 2-3 weeks, have tons of colors and are way less damaging on my nails than Gel/Nexgen.
HOW:
- Buy a package of nails you like. Each package comes with 30 nails in 12 sizes. There is a size for everyone. You can also trim and file them to get the look you want.
- Go through the pack and figure out the sizes you need. Write these down because it will be the same with each pack you buy. Line them up in order so it will be easy to apply them later. Make sure you put them on the correct direction with the plastic tab side closest to your cuticle.
- Next, trim your cuticles and cut your real nails as short as possible. The press on nails stay on my actual nails for 2-3 weeks so I want my real nails short so they don’t start to show under the press on nails.
- Once your nails are manicured use the PREP PAD on your real nails. This pad comes with the nails and is a very important step. It gets all the oil, etc off your natural nails so they stick better.
- After my nails are prepped I peel off the plastic backing and put the nails on. I line them up at the base of my cuticle, make sure they are straight and then just press. They come with adhesive on the back so you just put them on and push down. That is it! When they are all on I typically file them a little bit to make them look more natural and then I am all set! Easy peasy!
I have an entire highlight button on Instagram with stories about the nails, a tutorial on how to put them on/take them off and FAQ answers.
You can see that HERE.
I always get so many compliments when I wear them. People cannot belive they are press on nails! I have heard the same thing from many of you! Every time I share them on Instagram stories I get tons of questions so I am answering them below.
HERE ARE SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- DO THEY DAMAGE YOUR NAILS?
- My original answer would be no. If you wear them a few weeks and take them off I didn’t notice any damage. After wearing them for 4 months straight I did notice my nails were weaker so I gave my regular nails a break. They are way less damaging than gel or NexGen on my nails. My typical routine now is to wear them about 3 weeks, then take about 3 weeks off, etc. This is probably different for everyone depending on your actual nails, but this is what is working for me.
- HOW DO YOU REMOVE?
- Most people just peel them off. They stick pretty well to my real nails so peeling them off can hurt a little bit. By the time I am ready to remove them I have some that peel off really easliy and the others I soak. I just fill a little bowl with acetone and soak them in it for a few minutes. Then I take a cuticle stick and push them under the nails and they come off easily. You can see a video of me removing them HERE (you will have to click through a few videos to get to the tutorial).
- DO YOU USE GLUE?
- The nails come with adhesive that works really well. I only use glue if I have a nail fall off and I want to reuse it. I might have 1 pop off around 2 weeks. At this time since I no longer have the prep pad I use rubbing alcohol on my nail first and then glue on my nail or get a new one from the pack.
- HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
- This is different for everyone, but mine last 2-3 weeks. I think I am on the longer end of the spectrum. Most of the feedback I have had is 7-10 days. Some people say they don’t last long on them…I think it depends on how oily your nail beds are. Around 2 weeks they start getting loser and I might have 1/2 pop off. I either glue those back on with nail glue, or replace with a new nail from the pack.
- HOW DOES SIZING WORK?
- Each pack comes with 30 nails in 12 sizes. I have never heard of someone not finding a size that works for them
- CAN YOU TRIM THEM?
- Yes. I trim and file mine. The website says to wait an hour to file them after application, but I always do it right away and have had zero problems.
- PRICE?
- They are typically $8.99 but if you shop this website you can save 25% with CODE: HARGROVE25. Also some places run buy one get one 50% off sales sometimes so be sure to check for those too!
- WHERE DO YOU BUY THEM?
- I mentioned this above, but most drug stores and grocery stores sell them, but I like to buy on their website for the most color and style choices. Plus. . .you can save 25%.
- HAVE YOU USED THE PEDICURE SET?
- No, I have not, but I have friends that swear by them. For me, my toe nail polish typically lasts way longer than my finger nail polish and I love getting an pedicure. That is something I still go to the nail salon for.
- HAVE YOU TRIED OTHER BRANDS?
- Honestly, I have not. I know the ImPRESS nails work for me, so I haven’t bothered with any other brands.
- DO THEY GET STUCK IN YOUR HAIR?
- At first they don’t. They are on super tight like real nails. Around 2 weeks I start to notice it if I run my fingers through my hair. They just have more lift in them, then they did when I first applied. I just try not to run my fingers through my hair when that starts happening.
If you have used ImPRESS nails I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Also, if you have any other questions, let me know and I will try to answer them! These are perfect year round, but super fun for the holidays. If you haven’t tried them give them a shot! They have truly been a game changer for me!
