Since I started sharing my Mommy Makeover journey I have had lots of questions so I wanted to try to answer them all in 1 spot so yall could reference it. Here are some Mommy Makeover FAQ.
- WAS IT HARD TO GET IN & OUT OF A CHAIR AFTER SURGERY?
- Yes, the first week it is really hard. You cannot use your stomach muscles at all. Not only is it extremely painful, but they are totally numb and basically don’t work. I had muscle repair on my abs so it was no joke. The lift chair was life. I cannot imagine surviving this surgery without one!
- DID YOU HAVE TO EAT EXTRA PROTEIN OR DO ANY SPECIAL DIET AFTER SURGERY?
- Yes, my doctor wanted me to get 120 grams of protein a day after surgery to help with healing. I also had to have a gallon of water. The first 3 days they wanted me to have electrolytes instead of water so I drank Propel. Protein and hydration are super important.
- WHAT DOES A MOMMY MAKEOVER COST?
- This varies greatly depending on the doctor. I got quotes from $20-60k for the same exact procedures. I would think $25-30K would be a good estimate.
- DOES INSURANCE COVER THE SURGERY?
- Some insurance does cover plastic surgery if it is medically necessary. Some people who have had extreme weight loss need skin removal surgery due to skin rashes, etc. I was not in this situation, but it is a thing. They only cover certain procedures though. You would need to work with your doctor and insurance company.
- ANY CHANCE TO GET DISABILITY AFTER SURGERY?
- I honestly have no idea.
- WHAT LABS DID YOU NEED?
- My doctor required a metabolic work up before surgery to check all my levels and my blood clotting ability. I was able to order them through Request a Test and save a lot of money!
- HAVE MUCH WEIGT HAVE YOU LOST FROM SKIN BEING REMOVED?
- I don’t know yet. I am dying to find out. I go to my check up appointment at 7 weeks and there they should tell me how much skin was removed and how many liters of fat were removed from my liposuction.
- HOW LONG ARE YOU DOWN FROM REGULAR ACTIVITIES?
- This also varies. I would say at about 2-3 weeks you can resume a more normal life. For me it was a month because I had to wear foam under my garments. I would not have been able to go back to work with the foam because you cant wear normal clothes. Luckily I work from home so it wasn’t an issue, but I had no business going in public. You will still be sore at 2/3 weeks, but you could make it work if you needed too and there were no unforeseen complications.
- TYPE OF IMPLANTS? OVER/UNDER MUSCLE? DID I GET A LIFT?
- I did High Profile 385cc implants under the muscle with no lift.
- HOW BAD WAS THE PAIN ON A SCALE FROM 1-10?
- MUST HAVES FOR POST OP RECOVER?
- I wrote all about must haves for a mommy makeover here. I am telling you. . .these things are game changers. I cannot imagine having this surgery without these items.
- WHAT DID I SAY TO MY KIDS ABOUT PLASTIC SURGERY?
- My kids are 8 and 5 and I just told them that after having a baby there were some things that mommy wanted to have fixed. That was all. I was prepared for more questions, but shockingly, they didn’t really ask much more. I don’t want my kids thinking about looks, weight or any of those things so I wanted to be sensitive as I explained this. I gave them as little as possible, but that satisfied what they needed. I also told them they could ask me any questions they had. I feel like as parents sometimes we elaborate too much and give more info than they need or really even want.
- HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO A C-SECTION?
- I am not sure. I didn’t have a C-section.
- CAN YOU STAND STRAIGHT AFTER SURGERY?
- It is hard to stand up straight for a while. Your stomach feels so tight. I would say I didn’t stand up straight until about a month. It is easier the more you are up and moving around, but if you have been sitting for awhile, or just woke up it takes a while to get loosened up.
