Simplify in 2021

January 6, 2021 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

Thanks to Walmart for sponsoring this post and helping me simplify in 2021. All opinions here are my own.  This post contains affiliate links…if you purchase I may receive a small commission.  Thank you.

I know most of us have just come off of one of the most challenging years.  I was definitely counting down to 2021.  I love a new year and a fresh start, and this year more than ever.  I do feel like 2020 taught me a lot of things, so for that I am grateful.  It made me truly slow down and appreciate the things I have.  It forced me to really prioritize and I am taking those lessons with me into the new year.  I am not a huge resolutions girl, but one of my goals for this year is to simplify. I want to spend my time focused on what really matters and outsource the things that I can.

FLEECE PULLOVER | LEOPARD BEANIE

One of the things I really want to cut down on is errands.  I feel like I spend a huge amount of time running tons of errands that anyone could do.  It is not a task that specifically needs ME.  They are things that need to get done, but can be done by someone else.  Anyone else feel that way?  My time is so much better spent helping my kids with homework, pillow fights, family games, etc vs walking through the grocery store!

FAUX LEATHER PILLOW | PLAID PILLOW| GREEN VELVET PILLOW| WHITE PILLOW

Last year I shared that I discovered Walmart+ and that has been a huge game changer for me.  I had previously used another grocery delivery company, but Walmart+ is SO MUCH BETTER.  I can order groceries AND other things I have on my list.  Kills 2 birds with 1 stone!  Our family always has an ongoing list of things we need.   Groceries and random things like socks, something for sports, school spirit week costume that I get zero notice on, something for a class project, a friends birthday coming up, etc.  You know . . . MOM LIFE (or life in general).  Now, instead of running several errands to a bunch of different stores, I can get online and order everything I need from Walmart to be delivered to my home as soon as same day!  Saves me SO MUCH TIME!

I love seeing this on my front porch!

Everything I need delivered right to my door while I am working or doing more important things like this. . .

There is only so much longer my shoulders will make a great chair while watching TV, that Braden will grab my pony tail and ask me to giddy up like a pony and Avery will want to take selfies with me.  I don’t want to miss any of it if I can help it.

  • Groceries √
  • Ingredients for my NYE dish √
  • Socks for Avery √
  • Socks for me √

The 2 Benefits I use the most with my Walmart+ membership are:

  • FREE DELIVERY FROM MY STORE
    • I can get everything I need delivered to my door as soon as same day.
    • $35 minimum, restrictions apply
    • (click HERE to check availability in your area)
  • WALMART+ FREE SHIPPING, NO ORDER MINIMUM
    • I order from Walmart.com all the time.  As yall know, so much of my home decor is from there.  I can hop on, get what I need, it arrives quickly and there is no order minimum required.
      • Free next-day & two-day shipping on items from Walmart.com.
      • No order minimum required (previously $35 minimum to qualify for free shipping).
      • Excludes oversized, freight, & Marketplace items.

THERE ARE OTHER Walmart+ BENEFITS AS WELL:

  • MEMBER PRICES ON FUEL
    • Save 5¢ per gallon at Walmart & Murphy fuel stations.  I go to Walmart all the time, so this is a huge money saving benefit!
    • Plus, access member pricing at Sam’s Club fuel centers.
  • MOBILE SCAN & GO
    • Check out with your phone as you shop in-store. It saves time & it’s contact-free. Just scan, pay, & be on your way!

I will continue to look for new ways to simplify and make my time count so I can do lots more of this:

BECOME A WALMART+ MEMBER

  • Join for just $12.95 a month or $98 a year
  • Pays for itself in just 2 deliveries a month (based on non member $7.95 delivery fee).  I have been using mine weekly (if not more).

WALMART IS OFFERING A FREE 15 DAY TRIAL ON WALMART+ MEMBERSHIPS.  CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP.

What are your goals for 2021?  Do you set New Year’s resolutions?  Walmart+ is going to be a key thing to help me continue to simplify my list this year.  I am so thankful for this wonderful membership.  Now, if only I could get it to do my piles of laundry. . . I would be set 🙂

Thank you for explaining everything about the Walmart membership in a “quick and easy” fashion. $98 for the year is a steal!
Whee did you find the cute stand by your front door? Do you know what they are called?
I read your blog and newsletters ALWAYS! It’s my fav 🙂

Awe thank you so much. That is so sweet. It is a vintage replica washing stand. Also you can find similar ones called beverage stands. I tried to find the exact one I have and couldn’t, but here is a similar one. https://rstyle.me/+zdv2LKKSkcst3aLsV6s5Cg

When designing our home I pulled inspiration from all over! Pinterest, Instagram, magazine, design books, etc. we had this long spot in our front entry that we were trying to figure out and when I saw this image (swipe to see) in @gilschaferthearchitect ‘s book it stopped me in my tracks. I loved the use of transoms and designated spaces. My architect @josephpaulhomes & his wife Michelle helped pull the whole look together. So happy with how it turned out.

My grandfather owned a grocery store in New Jersey. The scale hanging from the ceiling in our butler’s pantry was the scale in his store. My uncle had it for the longest time & gifted it to me when we moved into this home. I love it so much!! My mom has the cash register he used in his store in her home. I love decorating with items that have meaning & that tell a story.

I love hallways & nooks. They are a great way to add interest to your home. Natural light & details are key. This space connects our hearth room to the gameroom. The Dutch door goes out to our courtyard, the room at the end is my office and the door to the left (just out of the photo) goes to the pool bath. Lots going on in this space.
I saw this floor pattern in a design book & had to have it somewhere in our home. I love it so much!

Bathrooms are such a fun space to make bold choices. They are small so every decision & detail makes a big impact. Still in love with this wallpaper from @wallpapersgalore_

✨REMODEL UPDATE: FAMILY ROOM✨

This family room had good bones, but we needed to declutter , maximize storage, update furnishings & make the space more functional.

There was a wall of shelves that was just too much. We purged and decorated with items that she loved & had sentimental value. So many homes are built with tons of open shelving and you have to be really careful in these spaces because they can become a spot for clutter instead of being intentional.
•added cabinet doors to 2 sections of shelves for some much-needed hidden storage.
•utilized the shelving that was separate from the other ones to make a designated bar space that is intentional and great for entertaining.
•found an gorgeous antique bar back to go against the wall that again is used as a bar when they entertain. Previously, it was a huge bench that took up width, but added no height to the wall. This is a major focal point in this space so we made it both functional and beautiful.
• I am not a huge fan of sectional couches unless they are in very specific areas. I think sometimes when people have a big room, they look for a big furniture to take up the space but it doesn’t actually give you the most seating and the spacing is sometimes awkward. They still really wanted a leather couch in there so we kept that, but then used more tailored chairs to frame the space.
• found this gorgeous coffee table on Facebook marketplace. Such a find!
•Removed the huge windmill fan that really took away from the gorgeous architecture of the ceiling with the beams.
•filled in dead space with functional furniture, like a cute table perfect for game night.
•scaled back the TV so it made more sense over the fireplace and went with a frame one so there could be pretty art up there as it is a main focal point. (Art was off in this photo, but typically it looks like a vintage painting)

So excited with how this space turned out. It’s lighter, brighter, more functional & a better use of space. They have walls of windows along the back of the house with a beautiful view and now you’re able to focus on that more.

✨REMODEL UPDATE: DAUGHTER’S BATHROOM ✨

Throughout this remodel you will see two constant goals…brighten up the spaces & add functional storage. This bathroom was dark & dated. We took everything out and had a fresh start.

•New paint, wallpaper, tile, fixtures, lighting, etc.
•Raised the height of the counters & some additional cabinetry extending up to the ceiling for much needed storage.
•Added cute details to the side of the counters
•Removed the tub & added a glass door to the shower to make the space feel bigger & more open.

This sweet girl has brought us so much joy! We are “foster failures” & couldn’t be happier about it. Callie has been the best addition to our family.
Chat GPT made this cute art from our Christmas picture of her. She was living her best life with all the ribbon from the presents.

I love a mudroom! I don’t care what size house I live in from here on out I’ll always have some “mudroom” space…even if it’s a tiny little spot. It’s so great to have a drop zone to keep organized. This space got lots of use during our ice storm with all the wet shoes, etc & these brick floors were great!!

Feels strange getting back to work this week. We’ve been living in PJs and been asking what day it was for about a week now. Snowmageddon 2026 was fun & we still have piles of ice on the ground….BUT nice to go back to a bit of a routine. January felt like 47 days 🤪
