I LOVE a beautiful front door! I think it makes such a big impact on your home! There are so many different designs out there. I spent a lot of time thinking this through and am excited to share our front door design.
Originally I though I wanted double front doors. Large french ones similar to this (painted white on the inside and grey on the exterior).
I love how much light it these doors let in and they are absolutely beautiful. However, after much thought and research I decided to go with a single front door with sidelights.
I really want our home to feel older. Like, it could have been built decades ago and renovated. Most of the older homes I love and used for inspiration all had a single door with sidelights. Another reason I decided to go with a single door was the shape of our entryway. We are doing our entry a little differently. We are making a front “snow room/mudroom” foyer and then the formal entryway. I wanted it to feel like it was an add on. Like, maybe back in the day it was a porch, but we decided to wall it in. I love the history of old home where you can see different changes done over time. I am really excited about this feature and will describe it more in a later post. Anyway, our entry is fairly narrow and I want a bench on one side. The sidelights and single door still allow for a ton of light, but give me more room for a piece of furniture. It also allows me to put boxwood bushes on either side of my door which I LOVE.
My 2 final inspiration front doors were Monika Hibbs and Julia Berolzheimer’s front doors shown below.
I basically wanted to merge both of these doors together. I love the 12 lights that Monika’s has, but I like the scale of the bottom portion of Julia’s because I want to add a brass mail slot in the door. Our farmhouse has an antique front door with a mail slot and I LOVE it!
Anyway, I did a little playing around in PowerPoint and this is what I came up with.
The door will be 4′ wide and 8′ tall. Our porch will be brick and I will have one lantern hanging over the front door like this.
There really are so many beautiful front doors out there. I LOVE the vintage ones and would have loved to repurpose one, but most are 6’8″ and we needed 8′ tall.
Here are some other front doors that I fell in love with!
I mean, this one is just dreamy!
This one is similar to mine. Love the brass hardware!
I mean, how cool is this??!! Such a statement entrance!
Why don’t they make doors like this anymore?! Vintage is just the coolest!
Dutch doors are amazing! We will have one out to our courtyard. I also love a screen door and rim lock hardware! It is all in the details! Look at that door stopper, the brass window details, the door knocker, the door straps, ahhhh this is the type of “jewelry” that I LOVE.
Certain homes just invoke a feeling. Some of my favorite movies have the cutest homes. Father of the Bride, Its Complicated, Somethings Gotta Give, Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, etc. They are all homey and charming! Lots of character!
Hope you enjoyed looking at all of these front doors. What style is your favorite? I cannot wait to put a huge wreath on ours during the holidays!

Love your style! Will your door be wood, fiberglass or metal? Can you explain why you made your choice. I am looking to update our front door and am deciding on material.

Thank you. It will be wood. I like the look and that is what my builder suggested based on our style.

Itโs funny when you said movies of houses out love and the first one that popped into my head was Father of the Bride. I love that house! And the yard. When we went house hunting I was trying to find a similar home. But nothing was a available at the time. Later, after purchasing our home, I was driving to the store and noticed one in the nearby town. Very similar, same driveway with basketball hoop. Gorgeous backyard. I dream of one day owning it.
