I LOVE a mudroom. I am not even kidding. . . a mudroom is a must for me. No matter what size home I live in for the rest of my life I will always have some designated mudroom/drop zone. I like having a designated spot for all the “stuff” especially with kids. The farmhouse doesn’t have a mudroom, but I have set up an area to function as one. The mudroom is a space that can be fun and functional and I am so excited about ours in the new home. Here is our mudroom design board.
Our last home had a mudroom and I learned a lot about our “needs” in this space so I was able to design them into our new home. The mudroom is right off the breezeway from the garage and it will have brick paver floors, an oval window and lots of storage. 1 side of the space will have a wall of lockers with 4 slots (1 for each of us), an oval window and a coat closet for all of our jackets to be hung up year round. The other side will have 2 full lockers with cabinet doors that we can store shoes, mud boots, etc. It will also have a small drawer section with a window above. In the drawers we will store gloves, scarves, etc plus have a charging station for iPads, etc.
Currently, I am planning on keeping all the cabinets white with a white quartz top. My friend Barrett (if you have been here awhile you know her as Wear it with Barrett) did this and I think it is genius. We had white cabinets at our last home and they constantly got chipped, etc. The quartz will take away that issue. I want the main focus to be the beautiful brick paver floors, but wanted a little bit of fun with a neutral wallpaper. We also have a gorgeous door going into this room off the breezeway that we will paint blue for a fun little pop of color.
We have a friend entrance right off our breezeway so this is the first room our guests will enter if they come that way. It will be a very used room in our home so I need it to be durable and fun! It will have a lot of special little details that I cannot wait see come to life!
