 I have been busy working on our kitchen design.  Our family uses the microwave a lot!  We knew we wanted 2 microwaves in our new kitchen, but I was trying to figure out the best placement for them and what type we wanted.  I asked for microwave drawer opinions on Instagram stories and as always yall were so helpful!  The reviews were kind of split, but I got lots of requests asking me to share what people said so today I am sharing everything below!

After reading all the feedback/reviews we decided to put one microwave in our butlers pantry over our wall oven and then another one in a hidden cabinet between our fridge/freezer.  We considered a microwave drawer in the island, but decided against it based on the feedback.  You will see the reviews are pretty split.  For us, I think the speed of the drawer would have bugged us and the drawers are more pricey which is why we decided against one.

PROS:

  • so much easier to clean, out of the way, absolutely love mine
  • We got one in our new home and love it.  No issues.  I love that it is not above the stove or counter
  • I had one 10 years and loved it
  • Mine is in my island and I love it
  • Love that my kids can reach it and heat their own food
  • I have a Wolf microwave drawer and love it
  • Makes a great warming drawer as well
  • Love it.  Will never go back.  Hidden and super easy to clean and use.
  • I have Jenn-Air and it is great
  • We love ours, but if you fill your cup to the top it will spill when you close the drawer
  • Love that it doesn’t take up upper cabinet space.
  • I have a Sharp and love it.  Functional, use a ton and more attractive
  • Love that my grandkids can use it
  • Great for short people and young kids
  • Love that you cannot slam the door.  Looks high end

CONS:

  • Awkward to use
  • it is much slower.  You have to wait for the drawer to open/shut.  I hate not having a turn table
  • Things spill when opening and closing
  • I don’t like having to bend down to use my microwave
  • TOO SLOW!, harder to clean, 
  • Don’t like that my kids can get to it.  They will open/shut it over and over for fun!  I also don’t think it is safe with little kids
  • Takes longer to cook food because there is no turn table
  • Hate ours.  Never cooks the food evenly
  • Not deep enough.  My ready rice bags cannot stand up in them.
  • I HATE how slow they are to open/close.  I have no patience for it
  • I have one and wish I could go back to a regular one.
  • Hard to clean
  • Mine breaks all the time
  • Doesn’t heat evenly
  • My kids have put non food items in the microwave and it was a disaster
  • Awkward to use and expensive to fix if anything goes wrong
  • SO SLOW
  • I wanted to love it, its just wonky.  Doesn’t heat great, can break easily.

I hope you found this feedback helpful.  Basically it seems like some people love it, some people don’t and you just have to decide based on the feedback which works best for your family.  Just like with anything it is a personal opinion/decision.
