Wow we have been a little bit crazy over here with end of summer, start of school, house stuff, etc so I am way behind on blogging! Trying to get caught up the next few weeks now that life has returned to some sort of schedule. Anyway, end of July we took a couples trip to Charleston and today I am sharing all the details. We had such a good time and absolutely fell in love with Charleston. THANK YOU all so much for all your recommendations. I posted on my IG stories and yall gave me so many good tips!
I have so many places I want to travel too on my bucket list and Charleston was towards the top. I love charming southern towns with amazing food and beautiful architecture. Charleston fits that perfectly. We always take a couple trip towards the end of July (typically to Mexico), but since we had gone there in February we decided to do something a little different this time. It was also my 40th birthday, so we thought this would be a fun getaway.
We flew in Thursday late afternoon and went straight to our hotel. We stayed at The Planters Inn. It was a great location and very charming hotel. Attached to the hotel is Peninsula Grill which has won tons of awards as being one of the best restaurants in the United States. We had to try this place so we called months in advance and got dinner reservations there for our first night. It was delicious and so quaint. There are gas lanterns everywhere! They are famous for their coconut layer cake so of course we had to try that. I am not a huge coconut cake person, but it was delicious.
After our delicious dinner we decided to hit up the clubs ;). We headed over to King Street to check out Republic, The Cocktail Club and Uptown Social. Everything is very close to each other so you could just bar hop and check out all the places. Republic was my favorite and it is owned by Leva on Southern Charmed. I love that show! More to come on that later!
I am not typically a beer drinker, but when in Charleston I had to try Austen’s (again Southern Charm) beer Trop Hop. It was very good!
OUTFIT DETAILS:
I got lots of questions on my dress. I started doing Nuuly which is a monthly fashion subscription. It is really fun. You get to pick out 6 items a month from their website, wear them and then return them. It is super easy and a great way to get to try new clothes and get new items. . .also if you end up loving an item, you can buy it at a discounted rate. I LOVE this dress, but not something I would wear often, so I am glad I got to rent it and then return it. Nuuly has tons of different fashion from top brands. It is $88 a month. That includes shipping and cleaning the items. You don’t have to worry about any of that . If you are interested in signing up you can save $10 off your first month HERE.
DAY 2
After a fun night out, we slept in a little bit and then headed to brunch at Church and Union. I had reached out to yall asking for recommendations and this one was suggested many times. The food was great, but the atmosphere was insane! It was built in an old church and an artist wrote the entire book The Art of War on the ceiling.
They brought your receipt in the Art of War book and you could sign the books. Such a fun touch. Our group is called the Travel Tribe because we always travel together and I wrote on page 40 since it was my 40th bday! Apparently, the people who wrote below me also had the same idea!
After brunch we went exploring. Charleston is a small fun town with everything close together so it is easy to walk. Yall, it was HOT!!! I mean this is coming from a girl who has lived in Texas her entire life. It was so unbelievable hot and humid! I am not sure I would go back in the summer again. There was a lot of outside walking and the sweat was no joke! Gross, but something to think about if you are considering going to Charleston!
We walked down E Bay street and saw lots of cute restaurants, we went to the Battery, walked down to the water, the Pineapple fountain, saw Rainbow Row, went in one of the oldest bars in the US, hit up King Street and just explored for a bit.
After exploring Charleston for a couple of hours we headed over to Mount Pleasant. Our goal for this trip was to get a feel for the different areas and then find the places we loved so when we came back we could spend more time in those spots. We went to Shem Creek for snacks/drinks at Red’s Ice House. This was such a cool area and definitely a spot we would want to come back to. It was right on the water and just a great atmosphere. The She Crab soup in Charleston is amazing. I had that several places we went and am ready for some more!
After Shem Creek we headed over to the Mount Pleasant Historic District. Yall, I DIE!! If we were to live here this would me my spot. SO CHARMING!! I mean, the most beautiful houses and trees ever! I couldn’t get over all the details. One of our stops was The Post House Inn. It was one of the most adorable places I have ever been. I could not get enough. I think I took 20+ pictures here!
Even the bathroom at The Post House Inn was cute. I had to take a photo because this is exactly what I am doing at our new house for the pool bath. I am putting a vacant lock on it an a bathroom sign. This WC one is cute, but I am not sure kids coming to swim at my house would know what a Water Closet it. Mine will probably say “bathroom” or “toilet” ๐
Look at these trees! I mean, they are just gorgeous. Photos do not do them justice!
After exploring Mount Pleasant, we headed over to Sullivan’s island. We hit up the beach and then had dinner on the main strip at Poes Tavern. It was good, but it won our vote because there was no wait. Mex 1, Home Team BBQ or The Obstinate Daughter would have been our choices if we had more time. Another super fun day exploring Charleston!

DAY 3
We headed to S.N.O.B for brunch. This was highly recommended by yall and you were right. . .delicious! The shrimp and grits were to die for!
After brunch the boys and girls split up. The guys parked at a beer garden restaurant and played cards, watched sports, drank. . .the girls hit up King Street for some shopping! Everyone had a great day.
We all met back at the hotel to get ready for the evening. First stop was Sewing Down South. If you watch Southern Charm this is Craigs pillow store. You cannot go to Charleston and not get the obligatory tourist photo if you watch that show. Geoff actually watches the show with me and indulged me with some photos.
THEN THIS HAPPENED!!! I shared the store on my Instagram stories and Craig and Austen re-shared my stories! AHHHH it was very exciting!
After all that excitement we headed to dinner at Halls Chop House. This was my favorite meal. OMG! It was so delicious and such a cool environment! They had so many steak topping options. The truffle butter was insane! Also if you like corn I highly recommend the pepper jack corn skillet! I want to go back just for that!
