We love having guests come stay with us. We have several friends and family members who live out of town so creating a cozy guest room is very important to us. We want our guest to feel welcome and comfortable while they are in our home. With the holidays coming up we have even more guests than usual, so I want to make sure our guest room is ready to go. Here are some simple tips to create an inviting guest room in your home.
TIPS FOR CREATING AN INVITING GUEST ROOM
First and foremost I want my guests to feel comfortable in our home. I want them to feel like they are on a vacation at a 5 star hotel. The most important thing in creating this feel is a cozy bed.
GOOD MATTRESS:
The foundation of any cozy bed is the mattress. It is so important to pick a quality mattress because you spend almost 1/3 of your life sleeping! You want it to be on something very comfortable. We recently got a new mattress in our guest room and it has been a game changer. The previous one was the mattress I had before Geoff and I got married. It was comfortable, but definitely in need of an upgrade. When we decided to purchase a new mattress we went to Sears because they have a huge selection of top brands, they have a 180 night comfort guarantee policy (one of the longest in the industry), and they had a very knowledgeable staff that could answer all of our questions. They also have an 84 month financing option available. After doing some research we decided on the Beautyrest Platinum Westbrook Luxury Firm Pillow Top. I like a firmer bed, however I want it to be soft and cozy as well. Not only do I want my guests to be comfortable, but we sleep in this room sometimes too. My kids love to have slumber parties in the guest room. Its a special treat for them to sleep with mom and dad and they think it is fun to be in a different room they don’t normally get to sleep in. Also, if I know my husband will be in late one night I let the kids sleep in our room and he will sleep in the guest room. He has a bad back so a good mattress is very important. The Westbrook mattress has many features that sold us on it. It has Geltouch® Foam and Beautyrest® Gel Memory Foam throughout the mattress that contour to your body adding comfort and support. It also has Aircool® Foam and Airfell™ Foam throughout the mattress that allow air to move through keeping your temperature comfortable while you sleep. This combined with a special cooling material just below the surface helps move heat away from your body so you are not hot during the night. And lastly the most important thing was it has Backcare® 3X which means it is engineered with additional pressure-relieving micro coils designed to provide individualized back support for each unique shape. Once we decided on this mattress it was so easy. Sears delivered it and hauled our old mattress away. Yall, let me tell you. . .this bed is comfortable!! We wanted to make sure we loved it, so after it arrived we tried it out for a couple weeks to make sure it was THE ONE! We also had a guest come and stay that commented on how comfy our bed was! WIN!
BEDDING
So, now that you have a comfortable mattress the next most important thing is bedding! You want cozy sheets, blankets and pillows on top of that bed! My favorite sheets in the whole world are flannel sheets. They are so soft! I like the room cool, and warm cozy sheets. That is how I get my best sleep. Everyone is so different when it comes to pillows. Personally I like down feathers, some people like foam, some sleep with 1 pillow, some sleep with 2. I make up my bed with 2 down pillows and keep 2 extra foam/poly options in the closet in case a guest wants a different kind. This is also true with blankets. I put a blanket on the bed under the down comforter, but also include extra blankets and throws in the closet in case someone likes more warmth or they want to sleep under the sheet only with a blanket on top.
BATHROOM| TOWELS
I like to give guests extra towels and wash cloths in the bathroom so they have everything they need. Also, always make sure you have plenty of toilet paper, soap and shampoo available in the bathroom for your guests.
FRESH FLOWERS| CANDLES
I absolutely love fresh flowers and it is such a nice touch to a bedroom. They smell great, look beautiful and add the extra touch. I feel the same way about candles. Your guests can relax and have a spa like feel to their room. Just make sure you leave matches for them to light the candle.
SNACKS & WATER
Creating a little snack pack for your guests is a nice little treat. That way if in the night they need some water or want a little snack they don’t have to leave their room.
Who doesn’t love a little trial mix and chocolate?
WIFI PASSWORD
Another helpful thing is to leave your Wifi password easily available. These days everyone gets on Wifi so it is super convenient to have this information for your guests.
OTHER NECESSITIES
I like to add extra helpful things in the nightstand that guests might need. I can’t stand it when I travel and have trouble finding a plug or enough plugs so an extension cord eliminates this situation. Most people travel with their own chargers, but just in case I add an extra in there and I always put a box of Kleenex.
STORAGE
Make sure to clean out your drawers and closet so there is plenty of room for your guests to unpack. That is the first thing I like to do when I arrive somewhere. Once I get everything organized and unpacked I feel much more settled and excited to enjoy my trip.
I hope you found some helpful tips to create an inviting guest room. If you are in need of a new mattress I highly suggest our new one. It really is so comfortable! Now bring on the holidays and out of town guests!
