FARM to Function

August 10, 2016 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

I am so excited to partner with World Market today, one of my go-to stores, and share some of my favorite items with you.  All opinions here are my own.  This post contains affiliate links…if you purchase I may receive a small commission.  Thank you.

When I set out for a new piece of furniture I look for pieces that serve as a beautiful back drop and then I like to “accessorize” them with home decor.  Every now and then I go for a big statement piece, but mostly when I am investing in  larger pieces I want them to be beautiful, functional and versatile.  The Wood and Metal Aiden 3-shelf Console Table is one of my favorite pieces.  It is simple so it does not distract from my decor, but the wood and metal materials add tons of interest and the vintage inspired casters add the character I love.  It is the perfect farmhouse piece as it is beautiful and very functional.  I am going to show you 3 ways I used the Aiden Console Table, but the possibilities are endless.  I am also sharing 4 simple tips to add Farmhouse Style to your home HERE.

3 ways to Style the Aiden 3-Shelf Console Table

FARM to Function 1

BOOKSHELF:

I have a nook before you enter my bedroom that was needing something.  It is not a huge space so I needed a piece that was narrow, but I wanted it to have some height to take up a lot of room on the wall.  The Aiden 3-Shelf Console Table was perfect.  It is 50″ wide, 15.7″ deep and 43.3″ tall.  There is also an Aiden 2-Shelf Console Table if you need something shorter.  It is 31.5″ tall.

I used the Audrey lamps with linen shades on both sides to give symmetry and add light to this dark nook.  They also help frame my Wood USA Wall map. This burlap picture frame is a staple item for me.  It adds texture and the gold wash gives it a little sparkle.  I needed a little height under the clock so I used a metal cake stand.  I love using pieces in unique ways.  Finished it off with a yummy apothecary candle.

BUFFET:

The Metal and Wood Aiden 3-Shelf Console Table also makes a perfect buffet.  There is plenty of storage for all of your dining needs.

HOH2House of Hargrove 019 (1500x1000)The wood and metal tones give a nice contrast to the white dishes and really make them pop.  I love decorating with neutral colors and here I combined many different textures for added interest.  Plates, pitchers, glasses, serving dishes are ready to go for all your entertaining needs.  I used the Samuel Wire Baskets again, but this time to store dishes, glasses and bottles…another great functional farmhouse staple!  I used typewriter font to make simple labels for the baskets.  I also used the metal cake stand to add height again, but this time it was for this adorable Mason Jar Lamp.FARM to Function (9) (1100x733) (1100x733)

FARM to Function (11) (1100x733) (1100x733)

FARM to Function (12) (1100x733) (1100x733)Another one of my go to items is the wire drying rack.  It stores all my coffee mugs so when guests are ready for coffee and dessert everything is very accessible.  FARM to Function (8) (1100x733) (1100x733)

Office Storage

Lastly, I used the Metal and Wood Aiden 3-Shelf Console Table in my office. It helped maximize my storage space in this room.

You will recognize most of the decor as the same from the other rooms, but with just a few changes you can get a new look.  That is why I love buying items that are multi purpose.  They are beautiful, functional and can save you money because they can be re-purposed over and over again.  The globe and the Edison Glass Cloche Lamp are new additions and fit with my office theme.FARM to Function (15) (1000x1500)Once again I used the Samuel Wire Baskets for storing books and clipboards and the Metal Tub for storing wrapping paper and other misc items.  Another one of my go to items is the Hardware Bin Lazy Susan.  I have used this item all over my home and it is truly one of my favorites.  Everyone should own one of these.  Here I use mason jars full of office supplies for easy storage and it looks pretty!  Functional and beautiful…win win.FARM to Function (16) (1000x1500)

I hope this has inspired you to look at furniture in a new way.  When you buy classic, functional pieces they will last a life time because they can change with you as your needs change.  Move into a new home and no longer have room for a dining room buffet…turn it into a media center, etc.  You cannot go wrong with any of the pieces I mentioned above.  They are all timeless, functional and versatile.  If you need more ideas on decorating check out my post on 4 simple ways to add farmhouse charm to your home HERE.

Thanks Elaine! Love your style and love following your blog :). Do you think this piece (Aiden 3 shelf console) could be used outdoors? It would be covered from elements. Just didn’t know about the mango wood. We live in Memphis and it’s so stinkin’ humid! Lol

    Thanks!

Thanks so much Heather!! Yes, I think as long as it was covered it would be fine! I have wood furniture out on my patio that is not specifically “outdoor” furniture and it has done fine since it is covered. I love that piece!!!

When designing our home the kitchen was such an important space. We spend a lot of time in there. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional. Here are some of my favorite features in our kitchen.

I’ve been on the hunt for faux flowers for my outdoor pots and I finally found a winner!!

🌸 comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links

I kept spending lots of money each season on real flowers and it was so much work keeping them alive!

I was looking for a better option and finally found one!

These faux flowers are
•BEAUTIFUL ....always in bloom
•ZERO MAINTENANCE ...no watering, fertilizing, etc
•BUDGET FRIENDLY ...these are priced great and you don’t have to replace them each season
•AND LOOK REAL. Some faux flowers are bad!! These really look good and unless you dig in there you’d never know they are faux

Each pack comes in a bundle of 2 bunches. Each bunch has 7 stems. You can plant 2 ways and I tried both. You can plant the bundle attached together and bend the stems (they are wired) to spread everything out....or....you can cut the bundles apart and plant the stems individually. I ended up doing that and thought they looked more realistic that way. I ended up using 5 packages (10 bunches) for 2 large pots and 1 smaller pot.

I share both ways on IG stories so you can see the difference.

I also removed some soil and added floral foam blocks beneath, recovered with dirt and stuck the flowers in them. I don’t think this step was necessary, but I wanted to make sure they were in there firm.

I’m so excited I now get to enjoy beautiful flowers with zero work 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Last year, Geoff and I added wires up this wall in a diamond trellis pattern. We planted creeping fig, but unfortunately, it all died this winter. I just planted Star Jasmine in its place so really hoping it survives. Texas weather is hard!. Thanks to a little AI magic I was able to create what my ultimate vision is. Fingers crossed it will look like this in a couple of years.

Yall I recently discovered you could make fun art on ChatGPT using your own images for free! @ciarakenaston inspired me with her Beatrix Potter images and I did a deep dive and found you can do so many cool things!

🩵 Download ChatGPT if you haven’t already and have fun!

Upload an image. Can be of your home, your family, etc and then type in prompts to have it alter your image. You can play around with it and try all kinds of things but here were my prompts for the video

1. Beatrix Potter inspired illustration
2. Jan Brett inspired illustration
3. Vintage oil painting
4. E.H. Shepard inspired illustration
5. Retro British cottage core style

If you do some be sure to share and tag me. I’d love to see them. Endless possibilities!!
