FARM to Lighting

June 10, 2016 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

I am so excited to partner with World Market today, one of my go-to stores, and share some of my favorite items with you.  All opinions here are my own.  This post contains affiliate links…if you purchase I may receive a small commission.  Thank you.

When decorating a space lighting is so important.  We spend a lot of time focused on the furniture, colors, etc, but lighting really helps set a mood.  If furniture is the outfit…lighting is definitely a key accessory!  Today we are going to talk all about farmhouse lighting and how to use it in your own home.

World Market is one of my go to places for lighting.  They have so many amazing options and offer the “look for less”…I am all about that.   They are also running a promo right now for 15% off regular priced items and FREE shipping on orders over $100 (Use CODE: JUNESAVE  Ends 6/14) There are many areas to add lighting in your home.  Lets start at the top….the ceiling!   If you want something a little more chic…go with a chandelier, a little more industrial…go with a pendant.  I really love both it just depends on the room.  Here are some of my favorites.

Recently I was helping a friend decorate her new home and she picked the Corinne chandelier.  I love it.  The carved wood base with wooden beads and thin candelabra arms gives it just the right amount of elegance while staying farmhouse.

The next most important lighting in your home is lamp lighting.  I love walking around my home at night with all my lamps on and there is a warm glow in each room.  It really sets the mood and adds a ton of style to your decor.  Here are some of my favorite lamps from World Market

There is a huge assortment to choose from.  They offer table lamps, floor lamps, task lamps and a huge selection of mix and match lighting which I love because you can really customize your farmhouse lighting to get exactly what you want.  Here is what the mix and match section looks like in my local store.
Look at this HUGE selection of lamp shades.

I fell in love with the Edison Bulb Glass Cloche Lamp.  I originally bought it for Braden’s Vintage Farm Nursery and ended up getting another one for our game room.  I love the size and it is the perfect mix of farmhouse, vintage and industrial.  I mean how cool are Edison bulbs?!

Here it is in our game room with my World Market end tables. I love the Aiden Collection and have the coffee table in this room as well.

When I was creating Braden’s Nursery I wanted to do something unique in his room so I created this lighting display.  World Market has everything you need to create this look.  Choose any of their lamp shades, their amazing vintage bulbs, cord swag kits and mason jar light kit.
I wish I would have found World Markets rope swag kit when I did this project because I would have used that for all of them!  Then I would have used this lamp shade, this lamp shade and this mason jar.

Look at the incredible selection of vintage bulbs and accessories.  Having a cool light bulb adds that extra touch of character to your lighting.

In addition to lamps, accent lighting also adds lots of style to your home.  World Market has a huge assortment of wall sconces and marquee lights!

The cool thing about these wall sconces is they all plug in.  They make unique bedside table lighting.  Here are 2 examples.  Use old doors to mount the lighting on for some extra vintage detail.

I also think Marquee lighting is so much fun to decorate with.  EAT in the kitchen, BAR in your bar, your family initial, JOY for the holidays….so many options!

Now that the inside of your home is decorated….it is time to focus on the outdoors.  There are so many great outdoor lighting options from string lights, lanterns, solar, etc.

I have the Edison Style String Lights on my patio and we love them.  These are essential to farmhouse lighting.

I really want to try out some of the lights with the fairy lights inside.  They are really popular right now and give off such great lighting.  I took this picture on the McKinney Home Tour last year and loved how they looked in cloches.  They now make string lights full of them for that little bit of twinkle light.

I also love the idea of solar lighting.  The sun does all the work!
Here are some of the outdoor lights from my local store.

When designing our home the kitchen was such an important space. We spend a lot of time in there. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional. Here are some of my favorite features in our kitchen.

I’ve been on the hunt for faux flowers for my outdoor pots and I finally found a winner!!

🌸 comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links

I kept spending lots of money each season on real flowers and it was so much work keeping them alive!

I was looking for a better option and finally found one!

These faux flowers are
•BEAUTIFUL ....always in bloom
•ZERO MAINTENANCE ...no watering, fertilizing, etc
•BUDGET FRIENDLY ...these are priced great and you don’t have to replace them each season
•AND LOOK REAL. Some faux flowers are bad!! These really look good and unless you dig in there you’d never know they are faux

Each pack comes in a bundle of 2 bunches. Each bunch has 7 stems. You can plant 2 ways and I tried both. You can plant the bundle attached together and bend the stems (they are wired) to spread everything out....or....you can cut the bundles apart and plant the stems individually. I ended up doing that and thought they looked more realistic that way. I ended up using 5 packages (10 bunches) for 2 large pots and 1 smaller pot.

I share both ways on IG stories so you can see the difference.

I also removed some soil and added floral foam blocks beneath, recovered with dirt and stuck the flowers in them. I don’t think this step was necessary, but I wanted to make sure they were in there firm.

I’m so excited I now get to enjoy beautiful flowers with zero work 🙌🏻🙌🏻

My greatest blessings!

Last year, Geoff and I added wires up this wall in a diamond trellis pattern. We planted creeping fig, but unfortunately, it all died this winter. I just planted Star Jasmine in its place so really hoping it survives. Texas weather is hard!. Thanks to a little AI magic I was able to create what my ultimate vision is. Fingers crossed it will look like this in a couple of years.

I just learned that May 3 is World Naked Gardening Day 🤣 I seriously can’t believe there is a day dedicated to this, but maybe lots of people need fences 🤷🏼‍♀️😉🌱🌿

Yall I recently discovered you could make fun art on ChatGPT using your own images for free! @ciarakenaston inspired me with her Beatrix Potter images and I did a deep dive and found you can do so many cool things!

🩵 Download ChatGPT if you haven’t already and have fun!

Upload an image. Can be of your home, your family, etc and then type in prompts to have it alter your image. You can play around with it and try all kinds of things but here were my prompts for the video

1. Beatrix Potter inspired illustration
2. Jan Brett inspired illustration
3. Vintage oil painting
4. E.H. Shepard inspired illustration
5. Retro British cottage core style

If you do some be sure to share and tag me. I’d love to see them. Endless possibilities!!
