We have been settled in our farmhouse for about 3 weeks now and are absolutely in love with it. I seriously cannot believe we found this place. It is the biggest blessing. Rental homes are really hard to come by in the area we live and this one is a dream home. While I am very excited about our new home, we are going to LOVE living here and it will be hard to leave.
FARM|ยญHOUSE OF HARGROVE
The farmhouse is located directly in between our last home and the lot where our new home will be. They are all about a mile apart. The location of our farmhouse is just perfect. It is tucked away and hidden off the main road. You drive down the cutest gravel street in a tunnel of trees and then all of a sudden everything opens up to a clearing and there are 10 acres with the cutest farmhouse on it . . . complete with a barn . . . and barn animals! We will be living here while we build and if I had to guess I would say about 18-ish months??
The front door gives me all the feels! I mean, it is perfection! There is also a dinner bell on the front porch that I adore. The kids can go out, run around and play and I ring the bell to call them in. The entire house has so many charming, old elements, but its actually not an old house. The original owners did an incredible job adding in all the charm and character of an older home. They used old hardware, door knobs, added transoms, reclaimed brick and the layout is typical of an old original farmhouse. These types of homes are really rare in Texas. . .especially in the suburbs where almost everything is new.
It is a 4 bedroom house with an office, a family room, dining room, hearth room and huge playroom over the garage. There are 2 fireplaces and 2 sets of stairs. One set of stairs leads up to the game room which is completely separate and private (perfect for a kids playroom) and the other set of stairs leads up to the master and kids bedrooms. It is highly unusual to have a Master Bedroom upstairs in a home in Texas so its cool to experience this. The views are great! My family is from the North East and all the master bedrooms are upstairs, but again . . . highly unusual in Texas.
There are so many things I love about this home, but this tree is one of them. It is covered in string lights and at night it is just beautiful. We have enjoyed sitting out here at night under the tree having dinner, sipping wine with my friends, etc. We just sit here, chat and the kids can run wild. It is the perfect spot. There is also a fire pit that I cannot wait to use when it cools down.
The home sits on 10 acres with a barn and some barn animals. The owners take care of all of them so we get the benefit of enjoying them, but with none of the work. There are 2 donkeys and many goats. There was a horse that was staying here, but his owner took him with her to college. The owner of the rent house said they may get chickens soon which would be so much fun. We are able to go pet the animals and feed them which has been incredible for my kids and their friends! We are learning lots about farm life. For example donkeys make crazy noises in the middle of the night protecting the goats from coyotes. The first time I heard that I was sure something was getting eaten! I had never heard a noise like that in my life. I have since learned that donkeys are amazing at protecting animals. . .I had no idea!
I have already been asked a ton if we would consider buying this home and staying here, but unfortunately it is not an option. The owners don’t want to sell it and I don’t blame them.
We are so excited to get to live here and make lots of memories in this incredible home. I will be taking yall along on the journey! My posts on Instagram will have #FARMhouseofhargrove so you can find them easily!
Inside home tour coming soon. . . stay tuned!
