Favorite Hair Products

May 29, 2018 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

I get asked a lot about my hair, what I use, how I style it, etc.  I am always trying new things and definitely have some go to items I cannot live without.  Today, I am sharing my favorite hair products.

I have thick hair that I get colored.  I have fallen in love with Balayage.  Not only do I love the color, but since it is more natural I don’t have to go in as often which is a huge plus.  My hair tends to be dry on the ends and oily at my scalp.  Dry shampoo has changed my life.  I was my hair 2-3 times a week which is great because it takes a long time to dry since it is so thick.  These products have really helped my hair.  Some are name brand, some are drug store.  Here is the complete list!

FAVORITE HAIR PRODUCTS

  1. MOROCCAN OIL SHAMPOO:  I love this shampoo.  It is really moisturizing, but not too heavy.  It makes my hair feel silky smooth and tames frizz.  It also smells amazing.  A little bit goes a long way.  I buy this in the HUGE size.
  2. BONACURE COLOR FREEZE BLUE SHAMPOO:  I use this about once a week.  It is a blue shampoo that helps remove brassiness in blonde hair.  My hair can start to go brassy and this helps tone it quickly.  I like to rotate this in to maintain my color.
  3. LOREAL DEEP CONDITIONER:  I use this about once a week and 2-3 times a week in the summer as a mask.  It really helps nourish my hair and make it so soft.  It is very inexpensive and does a great job.  Sometimes if I just need a little extra moisture I will use this on just the ends of my hair.
  4. MOROCCAN OIL:  WOW, this item was a game changer.  I use 1-2 pumps in my wet hair.  I pump in my hands, rub together and then run through my wet hair especially focused on my ends and around my face.  It makes my hair soooo soft and smooth.  Sometimes I put a tiny bit on after I have styled my hair to make it even smoother and shiny.  Originally when I thought about putting oil in my hair it totally turned me off, BUT I tried it and just LOVE it.
  5. AUSSIE HAIRSPRAY:  Cheap hairspray that smells amazing and gives a light hold.
  6. LIVING PROOF DRY SHAMPOO:  What in the world did I do before dry shampoo?!  I use this one sparingly because it is a little more expensive but it does an amazing job.  It really cleans my hair and removes oil and dirt. Makes hair feel fresh again.
  7. GARNIER FRUCTIS DRY SHAMPOO:  This one I used ALL THE TIME.  It is inexpensive, smells amazing and really helps my hair look fresh and add volume.  I use it every day.  Even when I have clean hair.  It just helps remove any moisture or oil.
  8. BABYLISS PRO HAIRDRYER:  This hairdryer really helps reduce my drying time which I need because I have very thick hair that takes forever to dry.  I like the feel of it and it has a great cool setting that gives my hair a great blowout look.
  9. /9a. T3 1.25 CONVERTIBLE CURLING IRON:  This curling iron has changed my hair.   I debated getting it forever because it was an investment, but it makes such a huge difference.  The barrel is longer so it is great for long hair, it really gives an amazing curl that holds very well.  I use the 1.25″ barrel the most.  I use it as a wand part of the time where I hold the clamp open, and I put in some curls with the clamp as well to make it look more “beachy”.  I paid more for the convertible wand which has a base and the top comes out.  I wanted this so I could clip the 1.25″ part out and add other wands in based on the look I am going for.
  10. T3 1″ CURLING WAND:  This is the other wand I clip into the convertible base above.  It gives tighter curls that I also love.
  11. LOREAL BOOST IT VOLUME SPRAY:  I use this in my roots to add extra volume.  Ladies I am from Texas. . .I need volume.  This is a great drug store find that really helps add texture in your roots to add volume and keep hair in place.
  12. RAT TAIL COMB:  I use this to tease my hair at the roots at the crown of my head.  Then I smooth my hair out on top so it looks more polished.
  13. WET BRUSH:  This is a game changer.  It is amazing how much easier it is to brush your hair with this brush.  It really smooths out your hair.  I use one after I shower and keep one in my pool bag when my hair is wet.  I also swear by this for my daughters hair.  It brushes through tangles so smoothly.

When designing our home the kitchen was such an important space. We spend a lot of time in there. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional. Here are some of my favorite features in our kitchen.

I’ve been on the hunt for faux flowers for my outdoor pots and I finally found a winner!!

🌸 comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links

I kept spending lots of money each season on real flowers and it was so much work keeping them alive!

I was looking for a better option and finally found one!

These faux flowers are
•BEAUTIFUL ....always in bloom
•ZERO MAINTENANCE ...no watering, fertilizing, etc
•BUDGET FRIENDLY ...these are priced great and you don’t have to replace them each season
•AND LOOK REAL. Some faux flowers are bad!! These really look good and unless you dig in there you’d never know they are faux

Each pack comes in a bundle of 2 bunches. Each bunch has 7 stems. You can plant 2 ways and I tried both. You can plant the bundle attached together and bend the stems (they are wired) to spread everything out....or....you can cut the bundles apart and plant the stems individually. I ended up doing that and thought they looked more realistic that way. I ended up using 5 packages (10 bunches) for 2 large pots and 1 smaller pot.

I share both ways on IG stories so you can see the difference.

I also removed some soil and added floral foam blocks beneath, recovered with dirt and stuck the flowers in them. I don’t think this step was necessary, but I wanted to make sure they were in there firm.

I’m so excited I now get to enjoy beautiful flowers with zero work 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Last year, Geoff and I added wires up this wall in a diamond trellis pattern. We planted creeping fig, but unfortunately, it all died this winter. I just planted Star Jasmine in its place so really hoping it survives. Texas weather is hard!. Thanks to a little AI magic I was able to create what my ultimate vision is. Fingers crossed it will look like this in a couple of years.

Yall I recently discovered you could make fun art on ChatGPT using your own images for free! @ciarakenaston inspired me with her Beatrix Potter images and I did a deep dive and found you can do so many cool things!

🩵 Download ChatGPT if you haven’t already and have fun!

Upload an image. Can be of your home, your family, etc and then type in prompts to have it alter your image. You can play around with it and try all kinds of things but here were my prompts for the video

1. Beatrix Potter inspired illustration
2. Jan Brett inspired illustration
3. Vintage oil painting
4. E.H. Shepard inspired illustration
5. Retro British cottage core style

If you do some be sure to share and tag me. I’d love to see them. Endless possibilities!!
