Farm to Friendsgiving: A neutral, shimmery tablescape

November 1, 2016 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

I am so excited to partner with World Market today, one of my go-to stores, and share some of my favorite items with you.  All opinions here are my own.  This post contains affiliate links…if you purchase I may receive a small commission.  Thank you.

I love any reason to get together and celebrate and this time of year there are lots of festivities.  I love Thanksgiving with family, but I think a Friendsgiving is always super special.  You know those friends who are so special you consider them family!  I want to start hosting a Friendsgiving dinner each November the week before Thanksgiving and sit around a table with those we love and spend a lot of our lives with enjoying yummy food and making great memories!  Nothing sets the mood better than a beautiful tablescape!

friendsgiving-tablescape-1

I want to change up our Friendsgiving a little from the traditional Thanksgiving dinner and bring it outdoors.  We can eat, the kids can play and just have a great time!  Its helpful that we are in Texas and the weather can still be very warm in November!  I wanted to set a neutral, shimmery, nature inspired table.  I like decorating with natural elements and this time of year pumpkins are the best!

friendsgiving-tablescape-6 friendsgiving-tablescape-2

I used pumpkins down the center of the table and set them on metal cake stands to add some height.  Next, I stacked white pumpkins in a glass cloche and used these great natural birch wood candle holders to tie in more natural elements.  I added a bit of sparkle to the neutral theme with warm bronze mercury glass candle holders and my favorite twinkle lights on copper wire!  They are so much fun to decorate with and easy to use.  I just wound them up in the glass cloche and they look great!  Think of how pretty they would look as it got darker!  These lights are awesome because they add a bit of sparkle without being overwhelming and they are battery operated. Lastly, add a few leaves down the center of the table and the center of your table is complete!

These twig placemats are perfect for a nature inspired tablescape.  They add texture and are a beautiful backdrop to your place settings.  I love using white dishes and these baroque salad plates add style with their unique shape.  How cute are these ceramic pumpkin dishes?  Perfect for serving a delicious harvest soup!  They come in 3 colors white, green and orange.  Like I mentioned above white dishes are my favorite, but I added a pop of color with 2 green pumpkins at the middle place settings.  To make it more unique I added a wood cutting board underneath.  I love the warm tones contrasting against the stark white dishes.  If you are serving food you need a napkin and these linen ones were a great compliment to the place setting.  These gray wine goblets had a vintage feel that I love.  They are neutral, but the embossed detail adds antique detail.

 friendsgiving-tablescape-3 friendsgiving-tablescape-8

There are so many different ways to set a table and that is what I love.  You can buy these pieces and mix and match multiple times to get several different looks.  Here is one example where I used the white dishes, with a cutting board and green ceramic pumpkin.

friendsgiving-tablescape-7

Here I removed the cutting board and used a white pumpkin for a clean, classic look.

friendsgiving-tablescape-12

How cool are these jute utensil pouches?  So great for a diner party.  Put your guests name in the middle and they serve as name cards.   Here I used it on the same wood cutting board, but you get an entirely different look with the pumpkin gone.

friendsgiving-tablescape-10

Lastly, for this setting I removed the cutting board, and changed the napkin to this mustard, grainsack striped one.  So many cute options to play around with and see what you love.

friendsgiving-tablescape-11

I truly think a beautiful tablescape sets the mood.  Now, you can enjoy delicious food and conversation with your dearest friends!  Do yall do Friendsgivings with your friends?  Love to hear any traditions you have.  Always looking for fun ways to celebrate and enjoy the company of loved ones!

When designing our home the kitchen was such an important space. We spend a lot of time in there. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional. Here are some of my favorite features in our kitchen.

I’ve been on the hunt for faux flowers for my outdoor pots and I finally found a winner!!

🌸 comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links

I kept spending lots of money each season on real flowers and it was so much work keeping them alive!

I was looking for a better option and finally found one!

These faux flowers are
•BEAUTIFUL ....always in bloom
•ZERO MAINTENANCE ...no watering, fertilizing, etc
•BUDGET FRIENDLY ...these are priced great and you don’t have to replace them each season
•AND LOOK REAL. Some faux flowers are bad!! These really look good and unless you dig in there you’d never know they are faux

Each pack comes in a bundle of 2 bunches. Each bunch has 7 stems. You can plant 2 ways and I tried both. You can plant the bundle attached together and bend the stems (they are wired) to spread everything out....or....you can cut the bundles apart and plant the stems individually. I ended up doing that and thought they looked more realistic that way. I ended up using 5 packages (10 bunches) for 2 large pots and 1 smaller pot.

I share both ways on IG stories so you can see the difference.

I also removed some soil and added floral foam blocks beneath, recovered with dirt and stuck the flowers in them. I don’t think this step was necessary, but I wanted to make sure they were in there firm.

I’m so excited I now get to enjoy beautiful flowers with zero work 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Last year, Geoff and I added wires up this wall in a diamond trellis pattern. We planted creeping fig, but unfortunately, it all died this winter. I just planted Star Jasmine in its place so really hoping it survives. Texas weather is hard!. Thanks to a little AI magic I was able to create what my ultimate vision is. Fingers crossed it will look like this in a couple of years.

Yall I recently discovered you could make fun art on ChatGPT using your own images for free! @ciarakenaston inspired me with her Beatrix Potter images and I did a deep dive and found you can do so many cool things!

🩵 Download ChatGPT if you haven’t already and have fun!

Upload an image. Can be of your home, your family, etc and then type in prompts to have it alter your image. You can play around with it and try all kinds of things but here were my prompts for the video

1. Beatrix Potter inspired illustration
2. Jan Brett inspired illustration
3. Vintage oil painting
4. E.H. Shepard inspired illustration
5. Retro British cottage core style

If you do some be sure to share and tag me. I’d love to see them. Endless possibilities!!
