Get Holiday Ready with these Kitchen Must Haves + a Great Crock-Pot Recipe!

November 29, 2018 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

Tis the season for entertaining, cooking and baking!  I love this time of year, but it is busy and involves lots of time in the kitchen.  Today, I am sharing my kitchen must haves and a quick, easy, delicious recipe your entire family will love!

Some of my fondest memories from my childhood are spent in the kitchen with my Mom.  There is just something about the scents and tastes of the holiday season and spending quality time together baking and cooking.  I love carrying on that tradition with my kiddos.  One of my must have kitchen items is my KitchenAid Mixer.  If you don’t have one, you need it immediately.  You can do so many things with it and they last forever!

We love baking sugar cookies as a family and we also have a secret family shortbread recipe that we make and give out to friends during the holidays.  Needless to say, my mixer gets lots of use this time of year!!  eBay is one of my go to places when shopping for kitchen appliances.  They have a huge variety at amazing prices with free shipping.  Did you know that 69% of items sold on eBay ship for FREE?!  Also 81% of of the merchandise is NEW and has a BUY IT NOW option.  They have tons of colors, styles, etc to choose from and also offer some refurbished options for HUGE savings!  Most of them are 45% off.  Make sure to add this to your Christmas list and ask Santa to bring it ASAP so you can enjoy it all season long!  Of course I use mine year round, it just gets extra love November & December!

eBay also has a great selection of holiday cookie cutters!

One of my other go-to, must have kitchen appliance is my Crock-Pot!  How in the world do people live without one?! I own 3 different sizes.  I have a large one, a medium one (the one I used above), and a small one to keep dips warm at parties. The holidays are BUSY!!!  We are constantly running here and there and I love that I can throw some things in my Crock-Pot and have a delicious dinner ready when we get home at night.  Below, I am sharing one of my family’s favorite recipes.  It is so easy, yummy, my kids like it and it makes wonderful leftovers!

CROCKPOT CHEESY CHICKEN & STUFFING

We make this recipe all the time.  It is warm, cheesy and the perfect comfort food in cooler weather.  I typically serve it with a vegetable, but it is delicious with rice, in a tortilla, or just by itself.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 large chicken breasts
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 6 pieces of Havarti cheese (you can sub this for any cheese you like)  I have used Gouda, Swiss, PepperJack, etc.  2 slices per piece of chicken
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (if I am trying to be healthier, I leave this part out)
  • 1 10 oz can Rotel
  • 1 10 oz can Cream of Musroom Soup
  • 1 box Stove Top dry stuffing mix

I have the most sensitive eyes and chopping onions used to be a nightmare for me until I found the Kitchen Plus 2000.  This is your friend in the kitchen.  It can chop, shred, slice, grate, julienne, juice, whip, etc.  I use it the most for chopping veggies, but it can do it all.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Line your crockpot with a slow cooker liner.  These are game changers!!!  Makes the clean up a breeze!
  • Place onions in the bottom of the CrockPot
  • Add chicken on top
  • Add slices of cheese on top of chicken
  • Then layer in the spices, stuffing and melted butter
  • Pour Rotel and Cream of Mushroom Soup on top
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours

The chicken is so tender and full of flavor plus your entire home will smell amazing!  ENJOY!

After a full day in the kitchen, or lets be real . . . any day, any time ( I have children) I need a quick, easy way to clean up all the mess and my Cordless Dyson Vacuum is my best friend.  Yall, this is the best vacuum ever!! Even my husband comments on how great it is.  My kids even like to use it and clean up their own messes!!!  HALLELUJAH!  It is lightweight and super powerful.  It can suck up practically any mess! I grab it multiple times a day!  This is the version I have, but they have many different options. They also have refurbished options available at great prices! If you do not own one, do yourself a favor and get one.  You will thank me later!

eBay really has everything you need to get holiday ready, from kitchen appliances, holiday decor, fashion, gifts, etc, it is a one stop shop.  They also have amazing daily deals with HUGE savings!  I always get asked about my Christmas tree and guess what. . . they have it on Ebay too!  I have the pre-lit version, but here is my exact tree in the unlit version.

I hope you and your family have the most wonderful holiday making lots of memories.  Hopefully these must have kitchen appliances and delicious recipe will make your season a little easier!

When designing our home the kitchen was such an important space. We spend a lot of time in there. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional. Here are some of my favorite features in our kitchen.

I’ve been on the hunt for faux flowers for my outdoor pots and I finally found a winner!!

🌸 comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links

I kept spending lots of money each season on real flowers and it was so much work keeping them alive!

I was looking for a better option and finally found one!

These faux flowers are
•BEAUTIFUL ....always in bloom
•ZERO MAINTENANCE ...no watering, fertilizing, etc
•BUDGET FRIENDLY ...these are priced great and you don’t have to replace them each season
•AND LOOK REAL. Some faux flowers are bad!! These really look good and unless you dig in there you’d never know they are faux

Each pack comes in a bundle of 2 bunches. Each bunch has 7 stems. You can plant 2 ways and I tried both. You can plant the bundle attached together and bend the stems (they are wired) to spread everything out....or....you can cut the bundles apart and plant the stems individually. I ended up doing that and thought they looked more realistic that way. I ended up using 5 packages (10 bunches) for 2 large pots and 1 smaller pot.

I share both ways on IG stories so you can see the difference.

I also removed some soil and added floral foam blocks beneath, recovered with dirt and stuck the flowers in them. I don’t think this step was necessary, but I wanted to make sure they were in there firm.

I’m so excited I now get to enjoy beautiful flowers with zero work 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Last year, Geoff and I added wires up this wall in a diamond trellis pattern. We planted creeping fig, but unfortunately, it all died this winter. I just planted Star Jasmine in its place so really hoping it survives. Texas weather is hard!. Thanks to a little AI magic I was able to create what my ultimate vision is. Fingers crossed it will look like this in a couple of years.

Yall I recently discovered you could make fun art on ChatGPT using your own images for free! @ciarakenaston inspired me with her Beatrix Potter images and I did a deep dive and found you can do so many cool things!

🩵 Download ChatGPT if you haven’t already and have fun!

Upload an image. Can be of your home, your family, etc and then type in prompts to have it alter your image. You can play around with it and try all kinds of things but here were my prompts for the video

1. Beatrix Potter inspired illustration
2. Jan Brett inspired illustration
3. Vintage oil painting
4. E.H. Shepard inspired illustration
5. Retro British cottage core style

If you do some be sure to share and tag me. I’d love to see them. Endless possibilities!!
