We are getting so close to breaking ground on our dream home. It has been a long time coming. It is amazing how much work goes in up front designing and planning everything. We really wanted to build a timeless, classic home that is different from other homes you see around here. I am calling it #HOHsoutherncapecod I will use that hashtag on all the posts so you can find everything in one spot. When we get started I will be sharing ALL.THE.THINGS! Anyway, I have been designing our home in my head for years, but our builder Joe Vastano at Joseph Paul Homes has been incredible at bringing it to life. He is such an incredible architect and oh so patient! He and his amazing wife Michelle have helped me hone my vision and had lots of amazing ideas of their own to add (I will share many more details about this process soon). This has truly been a collaborative effort. I am so so excited to get started and share everything! Today I am sharing lots of home inspiration and what inspired our design.
The homes that truly take my breath away have always been old homes with tons of charm and character. Unfortunately, in the suburbs of Dallas, those are pretty hard to find. Downtown McKinney has some, but we were wanting more land. Anyway, I would have loved to buy an old home and remodel it, but since that wasn’t an option we decided to build a home and are working really hard to incorporate timeless, classic details that you find in older homes. It is challenging because some of the things I love about older homes (the smaller rooms, etc) aren’t as practical during this season of our lives. An open concept really works for us for entertaining, having lots of kids over, etc so we are trying to incorporate the 2 things in the most charming way we can.
I get lots of ideas from Pinterest, Instagram, Books, etc and today I though I would share some of my favorite people/places to get home inspiration and maybe you will find some new accounts you love too! I highly recommend following them all on Instagram ASAP!
PATRICK AHEARN
He is a genius. Every design is more beautiful than the next. He specializes in timeless homes. I just bought his book, but it is back ordered so I am dying for it to arrive. He deisnged the 2015 HGTV Dream Home and that is when I fell in love with his work. So much attention to trim and detail. His tag line is classic architecture for contemporary living. That is exactly what I am trying to achieve with our home.
WADE WEISSMAN
I bought his book Heirloom Houses and it is incredible. It is a wonderful coffee table book full of amazing ideas and design. All of his homes are beautiful, but this shingle style home gives me all the feels.
G.P. Schafer Architect
He has another book that I bought and love called A Place to Call Home. Another great coffee table book. Found lots of little details in the book we are incorporating into our home.
C Brandon Ingram
Another incredible architect who does a wonderful job creating new homes with historical architectural details.
TIEK DESIGN GROUP
Steve Tiek is another incredible talent. The life like 3D renderings they do is unreal. I LOVE watching their stories and story highlights on Instagram
LANDSCHUTE
“We are historically minded and look to the storied past for much of our inspiration – creating a timeless version of the modern living space.” I love their vision and they do it so well! Each home is prettier than the next!
Edward Deegan
Murphy & Co
I stumbled on Murphy & Co when I was researching carriage garages and breezeways. This one really caught my eye. I think it is so beautiful and mine is very inspired by it.
THE FOX GROUP
I mean WOW! I am sure yall probably already follow The Fox Group on Instagram, but they are amazing. Every photo is better than the next. Such a talented husband and wife team!
Here are some additional Instagram accounts that I LOVE and am very inspired by.
- Catherine Sloan Architect
- Artisan Signature Homes : they have an amazing YouTube channel called Building a Better South
- Monika Hibbs
- Rachel Parcell
- A Well Dressed Home
- Studio Magee
- Sweet Shady Lane
- Jillian Harris
Another thing I do for home design ideas is use Realtor.com and search homes for sale in Atlanta, The Hamptons, Boston, Cape Cod, etc. I look in the areas that have architecture I love and tour the homes. This is a great way to give yourself a virtual home tour and see details without traveling.
Hope you love these accounts, websites and books as much as I do and get lots of home inspiration from them!
