My House of Hargrove: New Guest Room

August 5, 2014 By Elaine

I had posted back in June that with the announcement of a new baby on the way it was time to do some re-arranging in our home.  The guest room was downstairs right off the kitchen and this was the perfect location for a kids playroom.  You can read all about that HERE.
I have been busy this summer working on 4 rooms.  Avery’s Big Girl Room, Switching the Nursery to Braden’s nursery and swapping the current guestroom upstairs to the bonus room and making the current guest room the playroom.  So….I have been making lots of progress and the new guest room is done!
You can see the original guest room HERE & HERE

As you head up our front stairs you can see the small balcony section leads over to a 5th bedroom….this is now the new Guestroom.

This is a view from that balcony looking down to our entryway.
This is the hallway leading into the guest room

Welcome to our new guestroom…
I pretty much moved everything from the old guestroom up to this room.  The layout of the room is a little different and the ceiling height is much lower, but I think it all works great.  Unfortunately, I had to cover one window with the headboard.  There was really no other way to lay out the room.

In the original guestroom the ceilings were really tall so the french mirror was on the wall above the dresser, but it wouldn’t fit in this room.

I LOVE This wallpaper!  I have a really small section downstairs right in front of the old guest room, but this room has an entire wall of it!  It fits perfectly in this room!  So glad that it will be seen more now because you never really saw it when it was in the “bonus room”…we never went in there.  Click HERE for lots of Wallpaper ideas.

This is a view from the guestroom out into the hallway.

I was able to fit every piece into the new guestroom except one!  This white piece is now in my dining room.

Thanks for visiting our new guestroom.  If you have any questions post them in the comments below and I will get back to you.  Thanks

Love this! Is the French mirror a replica from somewhere or an antique find? Also did you create the mantle or did you find it in all its chippy glory?? I have 2black ones… one which will remain black but the other I would love to transform and use in our guest room. Any tips welcome! 🙂

Thanks!! It was a replica I found at a local boutique. I found the mantle like that, but I tufted it and turned it into a headboard. I do paint and refinish furniture, but I got lucky to find it just like that. If you want to paint yours you can create your own chalkpaint (there are lots of recipes on the internet) and then distress it with an electric sander and seal with a glaze. I bet they are beautiful!!

When designing our home the kitchen was such an important space. We spend a lot of time in there. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional. Here are some of my favorite features in our kitchen.

I’ve been on the hunt for faux flowers for my outdoor pots and I finally found a winner!!

🌸 comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links

I kept spending lots of money each season on real flowers and it was so much work keeping them alive!

I was looking for a better option and finally found one!

These faux flowers are
•BEAUTIFUL ....always in bloom
•ZERO MAINTENANCE ...no watering, fertilizing, etc
•BUDGET FRIENDLY ...these are priced great and you don’t have to replace them each season
•AND LOOK REAL. Some faux flowers are bad!! These really look good and unless you dig in there you’d never know they are faux

Each pack comes in a bundle of 2 bunches. Each bunch has 7 stems. You can plant 2 ways and I tried both. You can plant the bundle attached together and bend the stems (they are wired) to spread everything out....or....you can cut the bundles apart and plant the stems individually. I ended up doing that and thought they looked more realistic that way. I ended up using 5 packages (10 bunches) for 2 large pots and 1 smaller pot.

I share both ways on IG stories so you can see the difference.

I also removed some soil and added floral foam blocks beneath, recovered with dirt and stuck the flowers in them. I don’t think this step was necessary, but I wanted to make sure they were in there firm.

I’m so excited I now get to enjoy beautiful flowers with zero work 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Last year, Geoff and I added wires up this wall in a diamond trellis pattern. We planted creeping fig, but unfortunately, it all died this winter. I just planted Star Jasmine in its place so really hoping it survives. Texas weather is hard!. Thanks to a little AI magic I was able to create what my ultimate vision is. Fingers crossed it will look like this in a couple of years.

I just learned that May 3 is World Naked Gardening Day 🤣 I seriously can’t believe there is a day dedicated to this, but maybe lots of people need fences 🤷🏼‍♀️😉🌱🌿
