Things are really starting to come together at the house! This is the fun part! They have finished most of our brick floors and I absolutely love them! They turned out exactly how I was hoping. Here are all the details.
I searched high and low for the perfect brick. We ended up using pavers instead of full size brick, but they are real brick. I just ended up liking the look and feel under the foot better. I went all around and actually ended up liking the ones at Floor and Decor the best which made it easy.
We used brick pavers on our front walkway, front porch, 1st entry, mudroom, back breezeway and will be using them on our friend entrance porch. I love how brick gives an old vintage feel and since we want this house to feel old and historic, it was a great choice.
We wanted our first entryway to feel like an addition to the house. Like it used to be the porch and over the years it was added on. That is why we carried the brick from the front porch into this room. We also continued the bead board ceiling into this space. It serves as an entry mudroom. In the Northeast many homes call this the “snow room” because when guests come inside from the snow they need a spot to drop their stuff. This room will be “informal” with pegs on the wall for coats, bags, etc. I will also have a long bench with umbrella stand, etc.
There are lots of fun patterns you can do with your brick, but we went pretty traditional and did straight lay and some herringbone sections.
Here are the exact pavers we used. Floor & Decor Castle Gate Thin Brick. We bought them in sheets and then peeled them off when we wanted to make a pattern. They do sell them in herringbone sheets, but we had the tile guys just peel them off the sheets and lay them in that pattern themselves. We used Cobblestone color grout. Please note…I don’t think the photo on the website looks good at all. These pavers look SO MUCH BETTER in person! If you go to your local Floor and Decor you can see them for yourself which is nice because it is always a gamble when ordering online. It is also convenient because if you need more you can just run up to the store and grab more.
I got lots of questions about cleaning them. Our tile people used a sealant in the mortar and on the brick so they are easier to clean. Just vacuum and lightly mop. These brick pavers are much smoother on your bare feet than a lot of the bricks we looked at which was important to me since they are used inside our home as well as outside. We will definitely be walking on them barefoot at times.
We really couldn’t be happier with the way the floors turned out. If you are considering brick floors in your home I highly recommend looking at these pavers.
Here are the final floors with grout.
These steps still need to be painted white under each brick ledge so it looks more crisp and clean. Still a lot of touchups to do!
Let me know if you have any questions. Lots more #hohsoutherncapecod posts coming soon. So many fun things happening! 1 step closer!
