We have had a lot going on behind the scenes with our new home. I feel like the beginning part seems really slow. It is all very important steps, but you don’t get to see big changes, so it feels like it takes forever. Things are finally starting to happen that we can really see and it is starting to feel real! Here is an update of what has been going on lately. Form boards, plumbing and foundation, oh my!
Back in January I shared that we had cleared the lot! That was a huge undertaking as we had to remove many trees and had to prep the lot because it was very sloped. We had to move a lot of dirt around to get our pad built and everything level. This took several weeks. After that (and our crazy unusual Texas winter weather went away) we started with form boards. This was exiting because we got to see exactly where the house would sit on the lot. It went from a complete jungle, to seeing where our rooms would be, etc. (Notice how the foliage changes throughout the photos).
After form boards and plumbing, they started putting plastic on everything to prepare for foundation.
Once all of this was prepped it was time for foundation. This day was so exciting. The kids loved seeing the huge machine doing its thing. It was scary trying to see that machine avoid knocking over any trees (they all finally have leaves again)!
Seeing the foundation in place was a very exciting step. It dried the same day they poured and the kids were running all over it. We visited our slab many times over the last couple of weeks.
Next step is framing. I have been counting down until this stage. It makes such a huge impact and you finally get to see your home come to life. We have been looking at in on paper for so long, setting it become 3D and walk the halls, etc will be so exciting. It will really start to make more sense for the kids too. They did 1 wall on Saturday which happened to be Avery’s room so she thought that was the coolest.
The next few weeks will be amazing seeing everything go up. There is such a big hole on the lot right now, so I am excited to see that filled up with our home!! Stay tuned for the next update! It will be an exciting one!

I bet your ecstatic seeing the foundation poured! I remember I couldnโt wait for my house to be built. Itโs such an exciting time!
Canโt wait to see the finished product! Just make sure your very diligent with watching what the builder does. We have some horror stories with ours. Ofcourse ours wasnโt as custom as your house and we didnโt hire the builder. We came in when the first phase of the selling of the home sites started. If we had know, we would of never bought our house from them.
