Last week was Spring Break and we had such a great time. We decided to just stay local and have a fun spring break staycation with friends. There are so many fun things to do in the area so we packed in 2 super full days and had a blast. If you are looking for fun things to do in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area this post is for you! Prepare yourself for lots of pictures!
SPRING BREAK STAYCATION
We decided to go Monday/Tuesday to kick spring break off with a bang and to try to avoid some of the crowds. Of course tons of people were out of school, but we figured week days would be less crowded than the weekend. We went with some of our closest friends the Tuckers who we call family! This is the same family we go to Mexico with every year and we have some more fun summer plans coming up with them soon! Anyway, we headed out Monday morning to our first stop. . .
EPIC WATERS
OMG if you are local yall have to check this place out. . . it’s a total must! I cannot say enough about it. Here are some details.
- Located in Grand Prairie, Texas
- Its 80,000 sq feet and open year round including holidays. They have a retractable glass roof (the same person who designed the Dallas Cowboy Stadium roof designed this roof) that allows you to enjoy the facilities regardless of the weather. This was great news because the day we were there was cold and rainy!
- Opened in Jan 2018 so it is very new and super clean.
- TONS OF ACTIVITIES: 600 ft “action river” (my kids loved this), children’s shallow area complete with slides, water towers, toys, etc, pool with basketball hoops, surfing simulator, 11 slides including 3 thrilling slides that are the first of their kind in North America, a huge arcade, cafe, full service bar and a 10,000 sq foot wave pool that will be opening in May.
- Children under 3 are FREE and they are always having special events and promotions (like neighborhood weekends so if you live outside of Grand Prairie you get special rates for that weekend, tiny tot swim, family fridays, etc). Click HERE to see current promotions.

Epic Waters was truly the highlight of our trip. We were there for over 6 hours and the kids did not want to leave. There are activities for all ages. We ate lunch there, the kids enjoyed ice cream, the adults enjoyed margaritas :), then we dried off and hit the arcade for over an hour. We had a cabana and I highly recommend this because we didn’t have to worry about crowds or seating and had a place for everyone. . . also, you get your own waiter (ours was incredible) so they bring everything you need right to you and you can avoid the lines!! Cabanas seat 8 and are $150 M-Th and $200 Fri-Sun plus holidays. Avery is begging to have her birthday party here.
Not only was Epic Waters amazing BUT. . .yall, they have another facility next door called. . .
THE EPIC
The Epic is a recreation center featuring a fitness facility with more than $1 million in cardio and strength training equipment, children and teen areas, art class rooms, recording studios, The Epic Theatre, a culinary studio designed by Ikea, children’s treehouse play area, tots splash area, aquatic fitness, basketball, volleyball, pickleball courts, film editing, digital library and so much more. If I lived nearby I would absolutely become a member! This facility was unreal! If you have kids it would be amazing because your kids would beg you to go and you could drop them off in the kid area that has supervision and go work out, or do whatever you needed. It is a win/win! I felt more fit just being in there.
If you live in Grand Prairie I am so jealous of the incredible amenities you have available to you. Both Epic Waters and The Epic are part of EpicCentral which is a 170 acre recreational development that also has a 3500 plus outdoor concert area, The Summit which is a country club style recreation facility for adults 50+ and PlayGrand Adventures which is all all access playground for people of all abilities opening late 2019 or 2020. People from all over can enjoy these facilities, but I would love to live right next to something like this!
HOTEL
After a fun filled day at Epic Waters we headed to our hotel to watch movies and hang out. Our kids absolutely love staying in a hotel. There are lots of options in the area, but we stayed at the Double Tree. It was crazy because it was literally on the street I grew up on and lived my entire childhood life.
DAY 2
We all crashed hard and then woke up in the morning and since we were so close we drove by all my old stomping grounds. It was so much fun to show my kids the house I grew up in, etc. After that we all headed to Cracker Barrel for a yummy breakfast.
MOVIES
After breakfast we headed to an amazing movie theatre in Dallas called Cinepolis to watch How to Train your Dragon 2. It was crazy high up and the kids loved riding all of the escalators.
RODEO GOAT
After the movies we had some time to kill so we headed to Rodeo Goat for drinks/snacks. I have heard so many rave reviews about this place and I wish we were more hungry bc I would have loved to try the famous burgers, but we were all too full! Rodeo Goat was the perfect choice because it was next to our final destination (so we thought) Medieval Times. We showed up to go to the 5:00 show and it was sold out. Major fail on our parts. I cannot belive we didn’t think to get tickets early?! Anyway, they had openings for the 8:00 show so we decided to go kill some more time and come back to the show that night.
URBAN AIR
We found an Urban Air Trampoline Park and decided this was the perfect place to keep the fun going so we headed over there and had a really good time. There were so many activities and the kids were entertained the entire time!
After burning off some energy we headed back to . . .
Medieval Times
I had not been here since I was in the 4th grade so it was fun to go back with my kids. Everyone had a blast and my kids thought it was so cool that they could eat with their hands! We were in the Red Knights section and I don’t want to give anything away bc I am not sure if they change it up each night? The horses, the jousting, the sword fighting. . .the whole thing was lots of fun.
We had an action packed 2 days and it was the perfect way to spend our Spring Break. Love traveling with our “framily” and cannot wait for our next adventure. If you are local and looking for a fun staycation I highly recommend everything we did. We had a blast and made tons of memories! If you are trying to pick 1 thing to do. . .go to EPIC WATERS. It does not disappoint! Yall will love it!
Thank you so much to Epic Waters for hosting us. We had the best time. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
