Last week I shared another one of my beauty secrets. . .I shave my face! I shared the process on Instagram stories and yall had lots of questions (I received close to 400 direct messages). Today, I am sharing all the details including a video of me doing it. Welcome to Beauty Diaries: Face Shaving edition (video toward the bottom of post)!
If you have been following me for a while you know I like to keep it real. I will share the stuff most people don’t talk about because this is the stuff we all need to know!! The Beauty Diaries Series are topics I would share with my girlfriends at girls night out with some margaritas. I wish I could invite all of you to the ultimate girls night, but since I can’t I want to give you all the scoop on my blog. Not gonna lie. . .the video below is NOT the most flattering. . .but, I am willing to take one of the team!
FACE SHAVING:
WHAT: Face Shaving also known as Dermaplaining
WHY: It exfoliates the skin by removing dead skin cells and peach fuzz. Your skin looks smoother and brighter. Your skin will feel so unbelievably soft. Foundation goes on smoother, serums and moisturizers penetrate deeper, and unwanted hair is removed. The question really is. . .why not?! It is amazing.
Here is the hair & dead skin that came off my face this time.
HOW: You can get this done by an Aesthetician and it is called Dermaplaining, BUT I have been doing it myself at home for almost a decade. I use Tinkle Razors. I order mine from Amazon. I had a few people message me and say the ones online are not the “real” Tinkle Razors, but I have been ordering them from there for YEARS and love them. Do this on a clean face. I like to apply a light moisturizer or oil so the razor glides a little smoother. After shaving, finish your typical night time routine. Apply a toner, your serum and a moisturizer.
WHERE: All over your face and under your chin. I typically start on my cheeks, side burn area and take small gentle stokes down. This is the most satisfying area because there is so much peach fuzz here. You will see a difference immediately! I do my entire cheeks, my chin, under my chin down my neck slightly, and then I very lightly do my nose and forehead. Those spots you need to be the most careful so you don’t scratch yourself. You don’t really have much peach fuzz in those spots, BUT it takes off the dead skin to exfoliate.
WHEN: I typically do it every 3 weeks to once a month. You can do it more often than this. Honestly, I am really not very hairy so I don’t need to do it very often, but if you have thicker side burns, lip hair, etc you can do it more often.
WHO: EVERYONE! Seriously, everyone loves this. So many of you messaged me who already do this and love it or just tried it and are obsessed. If you have a breakout or mole I might avoid that area. You don’t want to cut yourself or spread germs.
COST: Super cheap…a 3 pack of Tinkle Razors is around $5. I typically use 1 razor for about 2/3 months.
MOST ASKED QUESTIONS:
- WILL THE HAIR GROW BACK THICKER AND DARKER? NO. I have been doing this for about 10 years and my hair is exactly the same
- WILL YOU GET STUBBLE? NO. As the hair grows back in it is still peach fuzz soft. It will feel like it did before you shaved it off, just shorter.
- CAN YOU SHAVE YOUR UPPER LIP/MUSTACHE? YES. It really depends how intense your mustache is ;). If it is dark/thicker hair you may like waxing better because it pulls that hair from the root and takes longer to grow back. Shaving it will make it go away, but you may have to do it more often
- DOES IT HURT/IS IT SAFE? NO, it doesn’t hurt at all and YES it is safe. You need to go slowly so you don’t cut yourself, but the razor has a safety blade so a “cut” is really more like a little scratch. I have only done that to myself 2-3 times in about 10 years and it isn’t bad at all. Really just looks like a little scratch.
- DOES IT CAUSE BREAKOUTS? NO, it hasn’t for me. If you have very sensitive skin you might want to patch test an area, but I have had no issues at all.
- HOW LONG DOES A RAZOR LAST? I typically use 1 razor about 3ish times. I don’t want it to get dull and it collects dead skin cells so I like to use a new one pretty often…also they are so inexpensive.
If you have any other questions let me know. I am telling you….you need to add “face shaving” to your beauty routine. You will LOVE it! Amazon PRIME your Tinkle Razors today and have a smoother, brighter complexion in days! You’re welcome 😉
