Budget Friendly Back to School Finds Part 2

August 26, 2019 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

Last week was my kids started school and it went great!  This is the first year both kids are in full time.  It is bitter sweet for me because my babies are growing up, but I have been able to get so much more done during the day!  Avery’s elementary school offers a Pre-K program that Braden is going to this year and he loves it.  He feels like a big kid going to his sister’s school and seeing her and all her friends in the hall.  It is just so sweet.  I love that our school offers this program because they way their birthdays fall they would have only been in school together for 4th and Kinder.  Now at least they get 1 extra year.  I was worried there would be tears the first week because he is more shy, but he handled it like a champ and said he had the best time!  Makes this Mama’s heart so happy!

We did most of our back to school shopping at Walmart this year (see the things they picked here) and it was amazing because my kiddos found things they loved and I loved the prices!  They wore an outfit from Walmart pretty much everyday last week and we actually went back this weekend and got some more items to add to their closet!  It is so nice getting ready in the morning and there is no arguing over what to wear!!  They picked out their clothes, I approved and they love getting dressed in the morning!  #winning

You can seriously find so many amazing things that fit tons of styles and I am blown away by the quality.  Avery tends to like more stylish things, but they MUST BE COMFORTABLE and Braden loves more of the athletic wear type of clothing.  The prices are so good I told my kids if they found something they loved to grab it in multiple colors!!  We found lots of great things in the stores, but there is an even larger assortment online and most things ship FREE!

BUDGET FRIENDLY BACK TO SCHOOL FINDS

OUTFIT 1

BRADEN’S OUTFIT is around $30 (including shoes).

  • T-SHIRT: comes in a 2 pack for only $6!  There are multiple color options, but 1 is a dip dye shirt and the other is solid white with a navy trim around the neck.
  • SHORTS: are blue chambray with a draw string waist.  I love a draw string waist so it fits him well!  They are comfortable and a little dressier than athletic shorts. ONLY $8.46
  • ATHLETIC SHOES:. . .yall. . .he is OBSESSED!  I have never seen him like this about shoes.  It is so funny.  He can slip them on himself and he is convinced they make him run faster!  haha!  He says they are soooo comfortable and it looks like he tied them “like the big boys at school”.  I love them because HE CAN PUT THEM ON HIMSELF!  All the moms just said amen!  ONLY $15.87
  • BACKPACK: is blue and black camo.  He loves it!  Padded back, adjustable shoulders, 2 side pockets and ONLY $12.88

AVERY’S OUTFIT is around $31 (including shoes)

  • OUTFIT: Yall, how cute is this??  It is 1 entire outfit.  Comes with a cute sweater top that has a built in cami, the softest leopard pants and a matching leopard scrunchie!  You get everything you need in 1 outfit! Check out how cute the back of this top is!! ONLY $16.44
  • SHOES: These shoes look so much like a Golden Goose dupe!  Golden Goose shoes will cost around $400!!!  These cute ones are ONLY $14.97.  They also come in a white/leopard option, but Avery loved these!  Metallic silver with black glitter stars!
  • BACKPACK: This backpack was only available in stores and ONLY $4.97!!  Would be so cute monogrammed!

OUTFIT 2

BRADEN’S OUTFIT is around $36 (including shoes).

  • TOP: This is one of my favorite brands for Braden at Walmart.  He just loves comfortable athletic wear and they make such cute options that rival way more expensive brands for a fraction of the price.  We bought this top in multiple colors!  ONLY $11.76
  • SHORTS: These are great khaki shorts with an adjustable waistline which is a must for us because Braden has a tiny waist!  Come in multiple colors, but have a great fit!  $8.46
  • ATHLETIC SHOES  same shoes as above ONLY $15.87
  • BACKPACK same as above.  ONLY $12.88

AVERY’S OUTFIT is around $33 (including shoes)

  • DRESS: This dress is on sale for $4!  Cute lace fabric with rainbow trim.  Avery said it was very comfortable!
  • DENIM JACKET: Cutest little denim jacket she can layer as the weather gets cooler.  We got the Dark Stone Denim wash and love it.  ONLY $14.20
  • SHOES: same shoes as above ONLY $14.97.

OUTFIT 3

BRADEN’S OUTFIT is around $29 (including shoes).

  • TOP: This is from the same brand as the shirt above.  We just love them.  I got this one in store and it came in several colors.  It was around $7-8
  • SHORTS: I also got these in store for $4.88.  The brand Athletic Works has lots of great inexpensive athletic short options!
  • ATHLETIC SHOES  same shoes as above ONLY $15.87
  • BACKPACK same as above.  ONLY $12.88

AVERY’S OUTFIT is around $35 (including shoes)

  • SWEATER: Cute little sweater with embroidered hearts.  We sized up in this one so it would be a little longer.  Comes in several color options.  On sale for $10!
  • JEGGING: These jeggings are amazing.  They have a beautiful wash (we got dark enzyme) and fit great!  Very comfortable!  I love that they look like jeans, but they are comfortable which is super important to Avery.  Less than $10 and come in several colors.
  • SHOES: same shoes as above ONLY $14.97.
  • BACKPACK: same as above.  $4.97.  Must purchase in store.

OUTFIT 4

This is the same outfit Braden had above in OUTFIT 3, but I added this sherpa pullover.  This will be amazing for the winter.  It is so soft and cute.  It is quarter zip, super warm and has hand pockets!  Comes in tons of cute colors and ONLY $14.74!!

Silly question but don’t you find that you have to replace your “walmart” finds a little more often than you would your department store finds? I know that tennis shoes for example are always worth the extra money because the quality of a good shoe is essential for growing kid feet! If you’re looking for a good deal on a good shoe maybe check out zappos instead??

I honestly don’t. I think the quality has gone up a lot and my kids outgrow shoes and clothes so fast that I don’t like to spend a ton of money on clothes, etc. I definitely think it is worth investing in some things, but for trendy clothes, etc I love Walmart!

When designing our home the kitchen was such an important space. We spend a lot of time in there. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional. Here are some of my favorite features in our kitchen.

I’ve been on the hunt for faux flowers for my outdoor pots and I finally found a winner!!

🌸 comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links

I kept spending lots of money each season on real flowers and it was so much work keeping them alive!

I was looking for a better option and finally found one!

These faux flowers are
•BEAUTIFUL ....always in bloom
•ZERO MAINTENANCE ...no watering, fertilizing, etc
•BUDGET FRIENDLY ...these are priced great and you don’t have to replace them each season
•AND LOOK REAL. Some faux flowers are bad!! These really look good and unless you dig in there you’d never know they are faux

Each pack comes in a bundle of 2 bunches. Each bunch has 7 stems. You can plant 2 ways and I tried both. You can plant the bundle attached together and bend the stems (they are wired) to spread everything out....or....you can cut the bundles apart and plant the stems individually. I ended up doing that and thought they looked more realistic that way. I ended up using 5 packages (10 bunches) for 2 large pots and 1 smaller pot.

I share both ways on IG stories so you can see the difference.

I also removed some soil and added floral foam blocks beneath, recovered with dirt and stuck the flowers in them. I don’t think this step was necessary, but I wanted to make sure they were in there firm.

I’m so excited I now get to enjoy beautiful flowers with zero work 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Last year, Geoff and I added wires up this wall in a diamond trellis pattern. We planted creeping fig, but unfortunately, it all died this winter. I just planted Star Jasmine in its place so really hoping it survives. Texas weather is hard!. Thanks to a little AI magic I was able to create what my ultimate vision is. Fingers crossed it will look like this in a couple of years.

Yall I recently discovered you could make fun art on ChatGPT using your own images for free! @ciarakenaston inspired me with her Beatrix Potter images and I did a deep dive and found you can do so many cool things!

🩵 Download ChatGPT if you haven’t already and have fun!

Upload an image. Can be of your home, your family, etc and then type in prompts to have it alter your image. You can play around with it and try all kinds of things but here were my prompts for the video

1. Beatrix Potter inspired illustration
2. Jan Brett inspired illustration
3. Vintage oil painting
4. E.H. Shepard inspired illustration
5. Retro British cottage core style

If you do some be sure to share and tag me. I’d love to see them. Endless possibilities!!
