If you have followed me for a while you know I am all about the details. Small details are the things that add up to make your home have that custom feel that you don’t see everywhere. These “details” don’t have to be expensive, you just have to be intentional with them. One very easy way to add charm and elevate your home is by switching out your standard vent covers to decorative vent covers. I did it in our home and love the results!
One of my huge goals with our new build was for it not to seem “new”. I wanted it to have a classic, historic feel where you couldn’t tell if it was new or an older home that was remodeled. I had seen vent covers in design magazines and older homes and knew I had to incorporate that into our new home.
I discovered SABA HOME DECOR and they had exactly what I was looking for. Saba Home Decor offers a wide variety of vent covers for your home. Made of acrylic plexiglass, these vents can withstand extreme temperatures and have no rusts, corrosion or mold. They come in a variety of styles, colors and sizes. Also available in custom sizes.
I chose the white Venetian style. They come in a bunch of pre-set sizes, but if you don’t find what you are looking for you can order a custom size. I just measured my current vents and ordered the same size because I knew they would cover the opening. There are 2 ways to hang them, you can use screws or silicone. I chose the screw route. I wanted to be able to remove them easily if I needed to get in the vent for any reason. I have never had to do that in the past, but just in case. You can also hang them as is, but I wanted them to perfectly match my paint so I painted them the same Sherwin Williams Alabaster.
Here you can see the decorative vent next to the standard vent as we were changing them out. The decorative one looks so much better!
When I shared on Instagram I got asked if they can be angled to affect the air flow. . .they cannot. They are flat and just cover the vent hole. For me, this is no big deal. I am not a person that adjusts the flow or angle of my vents ever. I did not use a decorative vent cover on my vents that had filters. I used the standard ones put in by my builder in that area.
While these vents are absolutely beautiful, they do not have to be used everywhere. My advice is to start with the main vents in your home that everyone can see. Changing those out with really elevate your space. Then you can add more from there.
All these small details make a huge impact on the look of your home. I put the vents in the main rooms of our home where they make the biggest impact. I am so happy with this simple change and love looking at vents now. Taking something that is typically an eye sore and making it beautiful makes me so happy!
