I am so excited about my new DIY farmhouse tree collar. It is exactly what I wanted and a fraction of the price. Today I am going to share all the details so you can make one too!
DIY FARMHOUSE TREE COLLAR
I have been wanting a rustic tree collar for awhile now, but they are expensive! So. . .I came across a rustic barrel planter at Home Depot and decided to make my own. There are a few different options. The photo below shows some I saw last time I was there, but the photo below that is more similar to the one I have.
This is similar to my barrel. It is called a 26″ Cedar Half Whiskey Barrel Planter
These are not the best pictures because I took them with my iPhone, but this project was super easy. I posted a video below showing the process, but all I did was cut out the bottom of the barrel with a saw. I cut a few pieces out and then the rest all just pulled out. It was super simple. Then I turned it upside down. The large part is on the floor and the narrow side is at the top.
Here is my helper putting the tree base in the barrel. Put the tree base on the floor and then put the barrel/collar on top of it.
It is a perfect fit! Most tree stands are the same size so this should work on almost all trees.
Now you are all ready to add your tree!
SIMPLE. EASY. INEXPENSIVE. . . the perfect DIY!
I will be making a 2nd one next year for our main tree. I had already put our main tree up and decorated the entire thing when I came up with this DIY farmhouse tree collar idea and my hubby looked at me crazy when I suggested putting our tree in the barrel. He was like “you want me to lift our fully decorated tree in the air and stick it in the base??. . .um no. . .that will not work” haha. Ok, next year! 😉 If you make one I would love to see it!
