When I started designing Braden’s new bedroom I knew I wanted it to be a sports theme, but not baby-ish.  I wanted to decorate with items I would put in other rooms of my house, but that had a subject matter than he loved.  Braden loves sports.  I mean LOVES THEM.  He doesn’t want to watch cartoons. . .he wants to watch sports re-runs?!  So, it was clear this was the direction to go.  I saw some sports patent blueprints and fell in love.  They were perfect!  Looked very “Restoration Hardware” and had the vintage sports look I wanted.  I knew I could make these myself and save a ton of money so today I am teaching you how to make DIY sports patent art and get this amazing look at an incredible price!

DIY Sports Patent Art

I have shared before that I love engineering prints.  It is an easy way to make beautiful art on a budget.  Engineering prints need to be black and white.  If you have color you can use the same technique, but it is called a poster print.  They are a little bit more expensive. . .still very reasonable though.  I got 3 18×24 poster prints done for $15 each.  I order mine from Staples and it is so easy.  Call your local Staples, get their printshop email address and then you just email over what you want and attach your image files.  They usually have them ready for you the next day. . .sometimes the same day!  The cool thing about these prints is you can do pretty much any size you need!!  There are so many thing you can use them for.  Frame them, put them on canvas, make your own hanging art like I did here, etc.  You can print photos, art, quotes, basically anything you find.  I love going to ETSY to find things to turn into art.  There are also TONS of free printables online.

To find the art for Braden’s room I searched sports patent prints on ETSY and sooooo many options came up.  Ultimately I fell in love and chose these (soccer, football, baseball).  They were $3 each and came in blueprint, white, chalkboard and vintage. . .I ended up printing the vintage option.  In person they look like they are on old textured paper.  After I had my prints I used 18×24 barnwood poster frames from Hobby Lobby to frame them. I get them when they go 50% off so they were $25 each.

So all in all these DIY sports patent blue print art pieces cost me $35 each.  I LOVE THEM!!!  They are exactly what I was looking for!  They are the perfect touch for over his bed.
