Favorite Drug Store Products

March 30, 2018 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

I love beauty products.  I am always trying new things and many of my favorites are not expensive.  There are tons of great products that don’t break the bank!!  You have to know where the right places are to splurge and save!  Today I am sharing my favorite drug store products.  These are items I use all the time and have for years that you need in your life!  Check out these budget friendly beauty items!

FAVORITE DRUG STORE PRODUCTS

These products below are my favorites, not because they are inexpensive. . . but because they are truly amazing!  Now, don’t get me wrong. . .I LOVE that they are inexpensive, but that is not why they became my favorites.  They are just as good if not better than the expensive items I have tried.

HAIR:

  1. AUSSIE MEGA HAIRSPRAY: This hairspray is a light, flexible hold, but helps keep the shape of your style an prevent fly aways and static.  It smells AMAZING!  I always spray it on last just so my hair smells like it. . .even if I am doing a crazy pony and don’t need any hold.
  2. LOREAL BOOST IT: This stuff gives the most amazing volume.  I like to tease the hair at the crown of my head (hey. . .I am from Texas), and I just spray a little of this where I tease at the roots and it gives amazing volume!
  3. GARNIER FRUCTIS VOLUME EXTEND DRY SHAMPOO: I have tried approximately 379 dry shampoos and this one continues to be my favorite.  I have learned that dry shampoo is very personal and people are really passionate about their favorite and I always go back to this one.  I actually order it on Amazon and have about 15 in my closet.  Let me say. . . use a TON of dry shampoo.  I use it every day, even on the days I wash my hair because it adds volume.  I just feel it really sucks out any moisture and makes my hair look the best way possible.  Because I use so much, I love that this dry shampoo is inexpensive because I go through it very quickly!  It also smells so good.
  4. COCONUT MIRACLE OIL DRY SHAMPOO: Ok, this one is fairly new to me.  As I mentioned above I am always trying a new dry shampoo.  Since I use it so much I want to make sure I have the best one.  Most of the time I buy a drug store one and it doesnt compare to my Fructis one (above) so I give it away, etc, but this one I really like too!  It smells like Coconut, very beach, and does a great job.  I have added this into my dry shampoo rotation.
  5. LOREAL TOTAL REPAIR DEEP CONDITIONER:  I have very thick hair that I color so it tends to get really dry on the ends and I deep condition about once a week.  This one makes my hair amazing.  I leave it on about 3 minutes in the shower and my hair really looks restored.  It is moisturized, shiny and so healthy looking.

OTHER:

6. NEUTROGENA MAKEUP REMOVER WIPES: These are incredible.  I use them as my eye makeup remover, but they can be used to wipe all the makeup off your face.  It takes off mascara so well.  There is no residue and it even removes water proof mascara so easily.  To save money I use half a sheet each time I use them because the sheets are large and I only need half to remove my eye makeup.

7. GOLD BOND FOOT CREAM: This is the best foot cream.  It is thick, moisturizing, has no odor and absorbs quickly. I use this on my elbows, hands, etc.  It is amazing!  It is not sticky or greasy at all and really helps keep my feet and hands moisturized.

8. NEUTROGENA SPORTS FACE CREAM: I use this all the time in the summer.  It is SPF 70 so it give amazing sun protection, but it goes on like a regular lotion.  It is oil free, moisturizing and absorbs fast.  This does not feel like typical sunscreen. It is resistant to sweat, water, rubbing, etc.

9. GLADE COCONUT & BEACH WOODS FINE FRAGRANCE MIST: Yes, this is an air freshening mist, BUT I use it as a light perfume spray.  It is a very fine mist that smells so so good.  When I am dressed or just need a little pick me up, I lightly spray this on my clothes.  It makes me smell amazing and the fine mist is not overpowering at all.  I shared this on Instagram stories and got several messages from people who went out and bought it and are in love with it too!

10. SALLY HANSEN AIR BRUSH LEGS: This stuff is amazing.  When you first spray it on it is kinda scary because you will look orange, but once you rub it in it leaves the most amazing finish.  It is like pantyhose in a bottle.  It is make up, not self tanner, but it has amazing staying power.  I spray it on, rub it in, let it dry and it can last a few days if you don’t wash it off.  It also does not rub on clothes or sheets (and I have white sheets).  It is water resistant so you don’t have to worry about it while wearing.  It helps even out skin tone, cover up any spider veins, scars or hair follicles.  Personally, I only wear it when I am going out in a nice dress or something, but it can be worn daily. I LOVE this stuff.

MAKEUP|NAILS:

11. COVERGIRL TRU BLEND PRESSED POWDER: This mineral powder gives a smooth even finish and really evens out my skin tone.   Just a great basic powder.  I wear color #2

12. SALLY HANSEN INSTA DRI TOP COAT: A must have if you ever polish your own nails. It makes your manicure/pedicure look amazing.  Leaves a nice shiny finish and dries so quickly.  This is a must because who has time to sit around forever for your nails to dry??!!

13. RIMMEL LIPLINER- EAST END SNOB: This is a great everyday liner.  It is a beautiful neutral, not too pink, not too brown.  It goes with many lipsticks.  It has a matte finish and is long wearing

14. LOREAL LASH PARADISE MASCARA- BLACKEST BLACK:  This is the best mascara!  I have tried lots of the expensive ones and this one is my fav!  It makes my lashes super full, long and black!  I cannot live without this product.  You know that game “if you could only take 1 beauty item to a deserted island what would it be?” Well. . .this would be mine (if toothpaste and deodorant didn’t qualify)

15. MAYBELLINE EYELINER-BLACK:  Great black liner.  Goes on easily with thin felt tip to help make a crisp line. Waterproof and smudge proof.

When designing our home I pulled inspiration from all over! Pinterest, Instagram, magazine, design books, etc. we had this long spot in our front entry that we were trying to figure out and when I saw this image (swipe to see) in @gilschaferthearchitect ‘s book it stopped me in my tracks. I loved the use of transoms and designated spaces. My architect @josephpaulhomes & his wife Michelle helped pull the whole look together. So happy with how it turned out.

My grandfather owned a grocery store in New Jersey. The scale hanging from the ceiling in our butler’s pantry was the scale in his store. My uncle had it for the longest time & gifted it to me when we moved into this home. I love it so much!! My mom has the cash register he used in his store in her home. I love decorating with items that have meaning & that tell a story.

I love hallways & nooks. They are a great way to add interest to your home. Natural light & details are key. This space connects our hearth room to the gameroom. The Dutch door goes out to our courtyard, the room at the end is my office and the door to the left (just out of the photo) goes to the pool bath. Lots going on in this space.
I saw this floor pattern in a design book & had to have it somewhere in our home. I love it so much!

Bathrooms are such a fun space to make bold choices. They are small so every decision & detail makes a big impact. Still in love with this wallpaper from @wallpapersgalore_

✨REMODEL UPDATE: FAMILY ROOM✨

This family room had good bones, but we needed to declutter , maximize storage, update furnishings & make the space more functional.

There was a wall of shelves that was just too much. We purged and decorated with items that she loved & had sentimental value. So many homes are built with tons of open shelving and you have to be really careful in these spaces because they can become a spot for clutter instead of being intentional.
•added cabinet doors to 2 sections of shelves for some much-needed hidden storage.
•utilized the shelving that was separate from the other ones to make a designated bar space that is intentional and great for entertaining.
•found an gorgeous antique bar back to go against the wall that again is used as a bar when they entertain. Previously, it was a huge bench that took up width, but added no height to the wall. This is a major focal point in this space so we made it both functional and beautiful.
• I am not a huge fan of sectional couches unless they are in very specific areas. I think sometimes when people have a big room, they look for a big furniture to take up the space but it doesn’t actually give you the most seating and the spacing is sometimes awkward. They still really wanted a leather couch in there so we kept that, but then used more tailored chairs to frame the space.
• found this gorgeous coffee table on Facebook marketplace. Such a find!
•Removed the huge windmill fan that really took away from the gorgeous architecture of the ceiling with the beams.
•filled in dead space with functional furniture, like a cute table perfect for game night.
•scaled back the TV so it made more sense over the fireplace and went with a frame one so there could be pretty art up there as it is a main focal point. (Art was off in this photo, but typically it looks like a vintage painting)

So excited with how this space turned out. It’s lighter, brighter, more functional & a better use of space. They have walls of windows along the back of the house with a beautiful view and now you’re able to focus on that more.

✨REMODEL UPDATE: DAUGHTER’S BATHROOM ✨

Throughout this remodel you will see two constant goals…brighten up the spaces & add functional storage. This bathroom was dark & dated. We took everything out and had a fresh start.

•New paint, wallpaper, tile, fixtures, lighting, etc.
•Raised the height of the counters & some additional cabinetry extending up to the ceiling for much needed storage.
•Added cute details to the side of the counters
•Removed the tub & added a glass door to the shower to make the space feel bigger & more open.

This sweet girl has brought us so much joy! We are “foster failures” & couldn’t be happier about it. Callie has been the best addition to our family.
Chat GPT made this cute art from our Christmas picture of her. She was living her best life with all the ribbon from the presents.

I love a mudroom! I don’t care what size house I live in from here on out I’ll always have some “mudroom” space…even if it’s a tiny little spot. It’s so great to have a drop zone to keep organized. This space got lots of use during our ice storm with all the wet shoes, etc & these brick floors were great!!

Feels strange getting back to work this week. We’ve been living in PJs and been asking what day it was for about a week now. Snowmageddon 2026 was fun & we still have piles of ice on the ground….BUT nice to go back to a bit of a routine. January felt like 47 days 🤪
