NEW HOUSE: Paint Colors

January 25, 2023 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

The number 1 question I get asked is about our paint colors.   Today I am breaking down each room and sharing every color we picked for our home.

To start we used Sherwin Williams paint throughout our house. If I share a color by another company it was color matched to Sherwin Williams paint.  Another tip, color matching Benjamin Moore white paint to Sherwin Williams paint does not work.  I tried many samples of it.  It has to do with the base that each company uses.  I do not recommend doing that, you will not get the same color.  When it came to white paint I chose Sherwin Williams options!

NEW HOUSE: PAINT COLORS

EXTERIOR

ENTIRE HOUSE:

On the exterior of our home we chose Sherwin Williams Snowbound.  I talk all about our white paint selections HERE and give a bunch of tips.  I wanted a neutral white that wasn’t too start or yellow and Snowbound worked great on our home.  The light from the trees, etc was what I wanted.  Be sure to try on your own home because paint can be so different depending on many different factors.

FRONT DOOR, GARAGE DOORS & SHUTTERS:

The front door, garage doors and shutters are all Farrow & Ball Black Blue.  It is a gorgeous really dark Navy that almost looks black.  Love how it changes in different light.

PORCH CEILINGS HAINT BLUE:

We used Benjamin Moore Smoke Blue at 75% strength.  Meaning it is the same color and hues just 25% lighter.  You can read all about our haint blue colors HERE.

COURTYARD DUTCH DOOR:

Here we used Benjamin Moore Smoke at full strength.

INTERIOR COLORS

INTERIOR WHITE:

We used Sherwin Williams Alabaster throughout our entire home.  It is on ceilings, walls, trim, cabinets. . .anywhere you see white.  I loved the warm white effect, but it is not too yellow.  We tried this color on the exterior and it read really yellow.  Again, this is why lighting is so important.  Snowbound on the interior was too stark white, but we loved it for the exterior.  Our home is very traditional so the warmer white just feels cozy.  I love it.  We used eggshell finish on the walls and satin on trim and cabinets.

BUTLERS, MY OFFICE & PANTRY DOOR:

In all these spaces we used Benjamin Moore Smoke.  I love keeping colors consistent throughout a home.  This is the perfect neutral blue color.

GEOFF’S OFFICE, BRADEN’S ROOM & BRADEN’S BATHROOM:

We used Benjamin Moore Hale Navy in all of these spaces.  I love the richness of it and it still feels neutral.

GAME ROOM:

We used Farrow & Ball Railings in this room.  It is a very dark navy, but slightly lighter than Black/Blue which we used on the exterior.

GAME ROOM BAR:

I wanted a neutral mushroom color for the cabinets to tie in the blue, black and white and coordinate with the plaid carpet we did in this room.  Sherwin Williams Shiitake was the perfect color.  I did a bunch of swatches and some read too yellow, some too pink, green, etc.  This one was just right.

AVERY’S BATHROOM:

I wanted a sophisticated pink/coral that was not too young in this space.  We chose Farrow & Ball Pink Ground and I love it.  It will grow with her as she gets older.

AVERY’S BEDROOM:

This was the same color we used in her room at the Farmhouse.  We loved it so much we used it again.  It is Sherwin Williams Wallflower and it is a soft lilac/grey color.  Again, it is a sophisticated girl color that can grow with her as she ages.

Ok, I think that covers all of our paint colors.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.

**We built our home with Joe Vastano with Joseph Paul Homes.  The Joseph Paul Homes website is under construction.  You can see his work on his Instagram and Facebook **

When designing our home the kitchen was such an important space. We spend a lot of time in there. I wanted it to be beautiful and functional. Here are some of my favorite features in our kitchen.

I’ve been on the hunt for faux flowers for my outdoor pots and I finally found a winner!!

🌸 comment SHOP and I’ll send you the links

I kept spending lots of money each season on real flowers and it was so much work keeping them alive!

I was looking for a better option and finally found one!

These faux flowers are
•BEAUTIFUL ....always in bloom
•ZERO MAINTENANCE ...no watering, fertilizing, etc
•BUDGET FRIENDLY ...these are priced great and you don’t have to replace them each season
•AND LOOK REAL. Some faux flowers are bad!! These really look good and unless you dig in there you’d never know they are faux

Each pack comes in a bundle of 2 bunches. Each bunch has 7 stems. You can plant 2 ways and I tried both. You can plant the bundle attached together and bend the stems (they are wired) to spread everything out....or....you can cut the bundles apart and plant the stems individually. I ended up doing that and thought they looked more realistic that way. I ended up using 5 packages (10 bunches) for 2 large pots and 1 smaller pot.

I share both ways on IG stories so you can see the difference.

I also removed some soil and added floral foam blocks beneath, recovered with dirt and stuck the flowers in them. I don’t think this step was necessary, but I wanted to make sure they were in there firm.

I’m so excited I now get to enjoy beautiful flowers with zero work 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Last year, Geoff and I added wires up this wall in a diamond trellis pattern. We planted creeping fig, but unfortunately, it all died this winter. I just planted Star Jasmine in its place so really hoping it survives. Texas weather is hard!. Thanks to a little AI magic I was able to create what my ultimate vision is. Fingers crossed it will look like this in a couple of years.
