My Cozy Bed: Best Down Comforter Ever

June 28, 2017 By houseofhargrove@gmail.com

I have been on the hunt for the perfect down comforter.  I love a fluffy, cozy, comfy comforter that is the perfect weight.  We love snuggling in bed as a family and getting all cozy under the covers together, so I was looking for one that we would all love, would be low maintenance and would hold up!  The hunt is over!  I found the best down comforter ever and had to share it with yall!

Our family spends lots of time in bed.  Yes, I love a good nap….but, we spend lots of time in bed not sleeping.  We have an adjustable bed base that sits our bed up and makes it like the comfiest sofa ever.  We love to crawl in bed with our kiddos and watch movies under the covers.  I also do most of my blogging from bed.  I am actually in my bed as I write this post.  So our bed is basically a movie room, an office and a place to sleep…also don’t forget the scene for lots of good pillow fights!  Needless to say having comfortable bedding was a huge priority for us!

I LOVE The Company Store!  I am obsessed with their flannel sheets.  I have had them on my bed ever since high school and I literally will not use another sheet.  When my husband and I first got married he was totally against sleeping on flannel sheets.  He thought they would be way too hot…..well, I could not compromise on this (you have to pick your battles and this was one I was willing to pick 🙂 ) and now he has totally converted too!  He LOVES the flannel sheets.  They are not too hot, they are just soft and cozy (noticing a theme here).

Our old down comforter was on its last leg.  It had gone totally flat, all the feathers had shifted to one side of the comforter so one side was huge and the other was like a plain sheet. No amount of rotating would help it.  I knew I wanted to try The Company Store one because I had heard amazing things from friends that have one and the reviews are incredible!  They have lots of different styles/types to choose from.

Here are some of the things I love about The Company Store Down Comforters.

  • They have options for every budget
  • Most styles have the option to pick the amount of fill.  Do you like them light weight?  Do you like lots of fill so they are very warm?  Totally up to you.  You can customize to get exactly what you want!
  • Several styles also have the option to make the comforter oversized!!  This is awesome if you want extra width on the comforter!
  • Every style option has a 4.5+ review!!  Seriously….read them.  You will see that everyone loves their products!

When I started my search I knew that I wanted a plain white (no shinny plaid patterns or anything), king sized comforter with extra fluff.  After reading all the reviews I ended up going with the Legends Luxury Geneva Down Comforter in the standard King size with Extra Warmth.  This has the most fill (51 oz) so it is extra fluffy.  This is obviously the warmest comforter and we live in Texas (which is crazy hot), but the thing about down comforters is they are very breathable.  I like to keep my room really cool at night and I am just the right amount of warm with this comforter.  I know it is a personal choice so there are many options and you can pick the one that is best for how you like to sleep.

I am in LOVE with this comforter.  It is so so cozy, fluffy, beautiful and comfortable.  Here are some of the features that stood out to me and why I picked it:

  • the cover is 400 thread count cotton sateen fabric so it is very comfortable.  I don’t usually have a cover on it because I love the way the down comforters look.
  • The way the pockets are sewn prevents the feathers from shifting.  This was a huge problem with our last comforter
  • It has a lifetime guarantee
  • It is solid white
  • I could pick extra warmth for the fill

As you can see from the photos above it is super fluffy.  That is exactly what I wanted.  My kiddos love it too.  They have really enjoyed cuddling up in the covers!  We had a family slumber party the other night and Avery slept in our bed and kept saying how soft it was.

It adds some extra cushion when jumping on the bed with your favorite trolls 😉

If you are needing bedding I highly suggest The Company Store.  Like I mentioned above I have been a customer for over 2 decades (I may have just cried a little as I typed that….how was high school that long ago?!).  While this comforter was a bit of a splurge I will tell you it is totally worth it.  Not only is it soooo much better than the other ones I have had, it has a life time guarantee.  At this point, this is my 4th comforter.  I had to replace my others after a few years.  While I paid less for them, when you add the 3 up it is more than this one cost and this one is guaranteed for my life time!  Please let me know if you have any questions that I didn’t answer above and I will try my best to answer!!

I reached out to The Company Store when I found this comforter and they gifted it to me for my review.  Thank you.  I knew they had the best stuff and couldn’t wait to try it.  All opinions are my own and I would never recommend something I didn’t truly love.

OMG….please you have to send me a pic or explain to me how you have an adjustable bed base? Did you purchase this or was it a custom build? How does the mattress work with this. Your family sounds like you use your bed the same way we do and I’d love this!

      Hi Amy-
We bought a Tempur pedic bed and the adjustable base was an option. We LOVE LOVE it. We spend a lot of time in our bed and use it as a sofa all the time. I am actually using it as I type this! Since the mattress is memory foam it bends with the frame. We didn’t want a split mattress frame bc then you have to use 2 twin beds pushed together and we wanted a regular king. I think most memory foam brand beds offer an adjustable base option.

When designing our home I pulled inspiration from all over! Pinterest, Instagram, magazine, design books, etc. we had this long spot in our front entry that we were trying to figure out and when I saw this image (swipe to see) in @gilschaferthearchitect ‘s book it stopped me in my tracks. I loved the use of transoms and designated spaces. My architect @josephpaulhomes & his wife Michelle helped pull the whole look together. So happy with how it turned out.

My grandfather owned a grocery store in New Jersey. The scale hanging from the ceiling in our butler’s pantry was the scale in his store. My uncle had it for the longest time & gifted it to me when we moved into this home. I love it so much!! My mom has the cash register he used in his store in her home. I love decorating with items that have meaning & that tell a story.

I love hallways & nooks. They are a great way to add interest to your home. Natural light & details are key. This space connects our hearth room to the gameroom. The Dutch door goes out to our courtyard, the room at the end is my office and the door to the left (just out of the photo) goes to the pool bath. Lots going on in this space.
I saw this floor pattern in a design book & had to have it somewhere in our home. I love it so much!

✨REMODEL UPDATE: FAMILY ROOM✨

This family room had good bones, but we needed to declutter , maximize storage, update furnishings & make the space more functional.

There was a wall of shelves that was just too much. We purged and decorated with items that she loved & had sentimental value. So many homes are built with tons of open shelving and you have to be really careful in these spaces because they can become a spot for clutter instead of being intentional.
•added cabinet doors to 2 sections of shelves for some much-needed hidden storage.
•utilized the shelving that was separate from the other ones to make a designated bar space that is intentional and great for entertaining.
•found an gorgeous antique bar back to go against the wall that again is used as a bar when they entertain. Previously, it was a huge bench that took up width, but added no height to the wall. This is a major focal point in this space so we made it both functional and beautiful.
• I am not a huge fan of sectional couches unless they are in very specific areas. I think sometimes when people have a big room, they look for a big furniture to take up the space but it doesn’t actually give you the most seating and the spacing is sometimes awkward. They still really wanted a leather couch in there so we kept that, but then used more tailored chairs to frame the space.
• found this gorgeous coffee table on Facebook marketplace. Such a find!
•Removed the huge windmill fan that really took away from the gorgeous architecture of the ceiling with the beams.
•filled in dead space with functional furniture, like a cute table perfect for game night.
•scaled back the TV so it made more sense over the fireplace and went with a frame one so there could be pretty art up there as it is a main focal point. (Art was off in this photo, but typically it looks like a vintage painting)

So excited with how this space turned out. It’s lighter, brighter, more functional & a better use of space. They have walls of windows along the back of the house with a beautiful view and now you’re able to focus on that more.

✨REMODEL UPDATE: DAUGHTER’S BATHROOM ✨

Throughout this remodel you will see two constant goals…brighten up the spaces & add functional storage. This bathroom was dark & dated. We took everything out and had a fresh start.

•New paint, wallpaper, tile, fixtures, lighting, etc.
•Raised the height of the counters & some additional cabinetry extending up to the ceiling for much needed storage.
•Added cute details to the side of the counters
•Removed the tub & added a glass door to the shower to make the space feel bigger & more open.

This sweet girl has brought us so much joy! We are “foster failures” & couldn’t be happier about it. Callie has been the best addition to our family.
Chat GPT made this cute art from our Christmas picture of her. She was living her best life with all the ribbon from the presents.

I love a mudroom! I don’t care what size house I live in from here on out I’ll always have some “mudroom” space…even if it’s a tiny little spot. It’s so great to have a drop zone to keep organized. This space got lots of use during our ice storm with all the wet shoes, etc & these brick floors were great!!

Feels strange getting back to work this week. We’ve been living in PJs and been asking what day it was for about a week now. Snowmageddon 2026 was fun & we still have piles of ice on the ground….BUT nice to go back to a bit of a routine. January felt like 47 days 🤪
