I don’t do a lot of decorating for Valentine’s Day around the house, but I did want to add a little something to my fireplace mantle. Today I am showing you how to create a Valentine’s Day Banner. It is simple, cheap and cute!
I love decorating with book pages. You can get books at Goodwill or garage sales for super cheap! There are so many crafts you can do with the pages. Rip out the number of pages you need based on how many hearts you want (1 page per heart)
Next fold the pages in half
Then cut out heart with all the pages stacked together. This way all the hearts will be the same size.
Here is the left over and you could make a cute craft or banner with these too. Maybe do every other one? Frame this? Use it as a matte and write something sweet in the middle? Endless opportunities.
I like to add reinforcement where I punch the holes since the paper is thin. I don’t want it to rip.
Add a piece of tape to both spots you will hole punch. This makes the hole much stronger.
Once you have punched holes in all your hearts just add ribbon to string them through. I used twine you pink/red ribbon would be really pretty too.
Since my paper was vintage and very thin the hearts kept flipping around and were not hanging how I wanted. I just taped a penny on the back and the weight of the penny had them hanging perfectly.
Here is the final product. It is very subtle. If you wanted to add more color you could always glue the book pages on colored paper or do this technique with scrapbook paper, etc.
I also like to decorate my Butlers Pantry for the different holidays by making it a Candy Bar.
